Re: why wont it stay on?? help plz
Does the motherboard make any beeping noises? Verify that you have the heatsink/cooling device for the CPU is making adequate contact with the CPU (make sure you have some thermal paste in there too). You may want to try swapping out the video card and the ram as you may have a bad video card or stick of ram.

Re: why wont it stay on?? help plz
could be heat. You didn't overclock at all, did you?
What PSU did you get?

Probably not.
There wasn't any thermal paste applied to the heatsink when you got it? Heat might be playing a factor if there is none.

Re: why wont it stay on?? help plz
nope no paste came on anything or in any of the box's that all the stuff came in

Re: why wont it stay on?? help plz
What about the HSF that the CPU came with? That WILL have thermal paste on it.

Re: why wont it stay on?? help plz
Check these extra power supplies are plugged in if they are present on your MOBO and GPU:
1) Next to the CPU - an 8 pin or 4 pin extra motherboard power socket
2) On your PCI-E graphics card - one or two 6 or 8 pin extra power connectors.
Without these connectors being plugged in you won't boot to anything.

With a PSU, CPU, GPU and some RAM you should still be able to boot to the post screen and get a missing O/S message. You do not even need a HDD at all to boot to post let alone a CD.
You do not even need a HDD or CD to have a fully working PC with an operating system - this can be loaded into ram through PXE boot over the network at bootup time.
No CD is not the issue.

Re: why wont it stay on?? help plz
ok....well i have a x58 mobo and that comes with a digital screen at the bottom that is suppost to show a certain number if there is a proplem and it is showing f6 and f3 and thos r not in the mobo instructions, this is really pissing me off i was so pround to biuld everything my self (all self thought) then all this bull****, btw thx for all ur help crazy buddhist and nevermind

Re: why wont it stay on?? help plz
So next step phone tech support at the manufacturer and ask them what those codes mean or do a google search for them with your mobo model.
It isn't over yet. Just take it one step at a time.
Hey what is the MOBO ??? is it an EVGA???

evga x58 sli le, i am thinking about calling geek squad, this is over my head and no one can tell me what the problem is, it is all very unmotivating

Re: why wont it stay on?? help plz
If you can't figure it out, chances are, geek squad can't either. When my uncle had a problem with his, it was that The extra 4 pins of the 20+4 pin plug that goes into the motherboard weren't plugged in.

Re: why wont it stay on?? help plz
Well, looking at the POST codes for your MBB in the manual grabbed from here, there is no code for F6 or F3. This would tend to indicate to me that your northbridge is hosed. Try resetting the CMOS. I believe that model has a CMOS reset button, but just to be sure, I would pull out the CMOS battery, leave it out for about 5 minutes to let the residual charge clear from the caps, then put it back in and try booting again. Also, when testing a system, I tend to pull everything out except for the MBB, CPU, PSU, and minimal RAM. Also, for future notice, you never, ever want to start up a system without any thermal paste. The crappy stuff they put on the stock heatsinks is fine for testing, but you never want to just have bare metal-on-metal.

Yeah, I know, I was just making sure he knew that for future notice since he thought at first that there wasn't any.

How did I guess it was the EVGA? lol
It's probably the EVGA x58 Mobo being dead doing this .. looking around there are stories of people RMA'ing two before they get a working machine but as it is your first build it would be best to be sure of that before doing anything.
Do you know anyone on the ground who can check it out with you? Otherwise phone EVGA tech support as I propsed before and ask them what those post codes mean. They might not be in the manual because they mean "Send me home".

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i PUT THE RAM IN A DIF SLOT AND IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!! evga labeled them wrong well thx for all the help evry1

Re: why wont it stay on?? help plz
RMA: Return Merchandise Authorization. It's when you send a product back to the manufacturer for a replacement....which reminds me, I've had three HDDs sitting around waiting to be mailed for a few months now... *runs off to mail them*

Glad to hear you got it working.

Re: why wont it stay on?? help plz
Good to hear this is working. I chuckled at your post where you said you were going to take it to Geek Squad. You build your own systems, you could probably teach them a thing or two.
Geek Squad = idiocy most of the time. Actually, I feel sorry for the lot of them.

Re: why wont it stay on?? help plz
Some of the new CPUs and Processors do NOT need paste. They have a silver heat transfer pad mounted on the heat sink from the manufacturer. It might be a heat problem but nothing related to the thermal paste.
It could be your power supply is going bad. 80% of all computer hardware problems happen in the first month of use. My Wife's computer is having that same problem, it's a capacitor issue with her motherboard. If you got the computer locally, take it back to the store. If you ordered it, they should have tested the parts. There might be a hardware diagnostics program on the driver CD, you can try that. It might give you some insite.
