Victorian Renaissance
Another year…
As some of you know. I quit my project Fallout 2.1, and told back then that I was planning something new. A project I call: Victorian renaissance. This isn’t the name this modification will get when I finish it. I am still debating on a name that suits a project like this.
Let’s start revealing some things I have so far. Some of you have probably noticed I had a link in my signature. This linked to a Wikipedia page, for those who have missed it here is the link again--here--. Since I have changed it to link to this thread. But I could have linked it to this Wiki page just as easy--here--.
Now we know what I seem to have in mind, let me tell you some facts.
I Have an Antec P182 case and I have disassembled it completely. With this done I could Reassemble it again using Google Sketch Up to the mm accurate. This helped me a lot in my design. Since I could undo designs that didn’t work for me. Here is a very early render and it has changed since. Ill post newer versions later this week.
Rendered with the open source rendering program Kerkythea.
Hardware,
It won’t be revolutionary since I won’t be upgrading my current pc as I see no need to do so.
My current hardware:
- CPU: AMD phenomII 940 Black Edition
- GPU: Nvidia XFX GTX260 Black Edition
- Mem: 4x 2Gig. DDR2 1066 GEIL Black Dragon
- HD1: 80 Gig. Intel Postville G2 SSD
- HD2: 320 Gig. WD Scorpio Black 2,5 Inch or maybe I’ll be able to include my 300 Gig WD Velociraptor
- PSU: 750 watt Corsair HX750W (which is modular)
There is one upgrade possibility, and that is in the GPU department I would love to add a twin of my GTX260.
Cooling,
As seen on the render I made, I plan on water cooling I think it’s a must for any modified case out there. But that is just my opinion.
I’ll be using:
- CPU Block: D-TEK FuZion v2
- Rad1: Black Ice GT Stealth 120
- Rad2: Black Ice GT Stealth 360
- Pump: Laing D5 Revision 2 Variable Speed with Ek Top (As seen in the render)
- Res: EK-Multioption reservoir 250
Also I’d like to add scythe copper memory heat spreaders (more for looks).
Design,
You are probably brainstorming as to what I am planning, I will not let you wait any longer. let me give you 5 points I will be working around.
- Copper, brass and flat black.
- Motherboard cover. One that will pull eyes to the parts I would like to be seen.
- Overkill Water cooling. (yes its only for the CPU, it got a little hot past summer had to clock it down from 3.8 GHz way back to stock 3.0 GHz. It won’t happen again when this is finished.)
- Clean look, No visible HD (Ok maybe one) and as far as possible no wires shown(and where they are visible still nice and tidy)
- And yes you could have guessed, it will be Steampunk.
So far so good, I say thanks for reading.
Yours Cheron.

Re: Victorian Renascence
As promised.
Rendered with the open source rendering program Kerkythea.
I hope you all see what I am up to... and as you can see I'll wont be starting
on the actual case till I truly sure where to cut the holes. all sugestions are welcome and ill try some out if I like them.
and before I forget. I like to credit: Ronski for the pump model for sketchup and Legoman666 for the radiators.
Yours
Cheron.

Re: Victorian Renaissance
now we have seen the renders we all know the basics of what I am up to.
now let us move to the real thing. as I mentioned earlier I had taken it apart so I could make an exact copy of the case in sketch-up. Now I have reassembled it for the moment. have a look.
Just some pictures the cutting will start soon.
there are more pictures you can find em here-->my flickr<--
stay close

Count me in on a subscription :), I'll have to take a look at the plugin for sketchup also, all the best Cheron .

Re: Victorian Renaissance
Now that is a real moral booster.
To the people who cant wait to see how I have done. sorry its still to cold to venture out to my trusty workshop just yet. but since the weather here is improving, ill be hopefully in the workshop next week. trying to get the top panel cut so I can mount the 360 rad.
-
Re: Victorian Renaissance
measurements are made need to start on the cutting. after that a first pic update also I have send out my drawings to a waterjet cutter and he will be making my copper window trim for the sidepanel.

Re: Victorian Renaissance
I was glad to feature you-your design interested me, and I really wanna see how this goes.
I've modded a P180 before, so I know a bit of your pain.
-
Re: Victorian Renaissance
And finally he starts off....
It has been some time but I finally started to work on this project. Ill keep it short and move quickly to the pictures.
Since you know what I am up to with the skeleton of the case. I started on the side window, I am half way on finishing this.
This is what I picked up today, its a copper trim special made for me. Wanna know where it will end up, scroll down and watch the pictures.
As you can see I need to polish it. This I'll do in a later stadium.
Needless to say... Cutting the window.
And now... This is the ''what it will become'' Impression.
Till next time.
Yours Cheron.

Re: Victorian Renaissance
oooh... me likey the window! :D
-
Re: Victorian Renaissance
I love that look. It reminds me a little bit of the turret (not positive thats what it is) on the Millenium Falcon. Only a little thought. Has the feel of a fancy leaded window.
-
Re: Victorian Renaissance
funny I was thinking it looked Star Wars-y and I couldn't place why. haha that makes sense, it does look like the Millennium Falcon.
-
Re: Victorian Renaissance
lol It was mentioned also Work at today. but no... it was based a lamp in the main hall of the natural history museum in London.
This was a goldmine for inspiration.
-
Re: Victorian Renaissance
I have some bad news.... and I am not killing this project.... I have to rebuild my cars engine(arrrggggg)....And this is draining my money for this project so instead big changes to the chassis. ill be working on smaller stuff for this mod. like the resevoir and dvd-drive.
And I have to warn you all, this is going to be a really slow build from this moment on.
-
Re: Victorian Renaissance
Cheron, you aren't the only one to ever have a financial crisis.
I'm building the Bat while going through a divorce. These things do happen.
-
Re: Victorian Renaissance
It may take you longer to build it, but we'll still be waiting to see it. I sympathise completely, I just had to replace the motor in our car in October.
-
Re: Victorian Renaissance
Thanks for understanding. I just wanted you all to know. but since I have still loads of things I kan do lets focus on those for the upcomming weeks. I'll be starting on the cuts that i have to make for the Resevoir. It will be nice to see how that works out. keep you tumbs up for me. and you all be getting a nice update for the weekend.
Yours Cheron.

Re: Victorian Renaissance
wow....I need to go to that museum. I adore gothic style architecture, even started a 3d cathedral model in maya years ago (sadly it finished off my computer before I could finish the model, it got super complex). Nice to see someone use that sort of thing for inspiration! my first thought on your window is it looks like a TIE fighter cockpit window, but seeing the photo of the lamp I understand where the idea came from. Good job! looking forward to seeing more!

Re: Victorian Renaissance
Hello there I got an awful lot of cutting done yesterday. but not yet done.
Wile talking to an fellow employee today at work I decided not to laser cut anything. We agreed that the Soul or character of an Object is in the imperfections that the maker of the object left. With this in mind I'll be crafting everything myself from sheet metal or I should say sheet brass.
now on to what I have done.
Since some of you warned me for the hard time I would get cutting my P182. I decided to drill an awful lot of holes with my drill-press to weaken the P182, on the places I would be cutting anyway. This also helped me keep the length I was making noise(next door they have a newly born and I am on a good foot with my neighbors).
After Drilling all the holes I cut it with my Dremel. and did some grinding to give em a smooth edge.
And then this.... its an rubber trim to get rid of the sharp edge.
And a test fit....
And you could have guessed it. The location of my Reservoir.
The Radiator on the to also fits.
Not to worry about the dust it will be cleaned in time.
I placed the dvd player on its future location(so you can see the room I have reserved for my dvd player)
And a shot to give first impressions on what you might be able to see through the window..
Now stay close.
Yours Cheron

8) Thats how I feel about modding too, imperfections keep it human made & completely unique :).
I'm like that about the noise & neighbors too, I should put some sound proofing in the garage so I can mod away at any time, would be able to get so much more done & would be my best mod to date lol :D.

Re: Victorian Renaissance
Project looks like it will turn out to be an awesome case. I have one question for you; I have a P183, and I will be modding the top panel to accomodate a 180mm exhaust fan. How were you able to remove the top plastic piece to expose the metal underneath?
-
Re: Victorian Renaissance
@Juicebox
The top plastic piece is fastened by a layer of double sided tape/film. if you slowly insert a screw driver between the metal an plastic it should give way I had removed it in about 15 to 20 min. my advice take it very slow since you cant replace it easy. i have 1 a 2mm thick double sided tape from my work to re fasten it later.
I hope it helps.

Re: Victorian Renaissance
It has been a wile and had a lot of trouble in my life lately but were back on track. Unfotunedly I havent someting to show you. As that will change soon Ill be modding again on V&R.
So that was me telling I am back in Bizz.

Re: Victorian Renaissance

Re: Victorian Renaissance
Finally cracked the sodering mistery. Ill be taking some parts to my work tomorrow so I can finish em. after that it will be a homerun to the finished pump.
