Boondock saints mod

ok here goes.....
i plan to build a boondock saints themed case ....
trying to keep it relatively simple as this im my first whole case mod ....
i have coolermaster centurion 5 which was a present :) ...
which i plan to use ..it has a premodded window ....

i plan to put a uv acrylic green cross on the window ....based on the rosaries in the movie....
and to have the words "aequitas" and "veritas" vertically on either side of the window
one more cross on the front panel ...mayb hook it up to the hdd leds so that its flashes with actvity ...

havent really decided for the other side panel ....
i want to incorporate the prayer from the movie somewhere ....but not sure how to do it ...
i was thinking mayb to have it as a border going along the edges of the panel ... or having it painted in the centre ...

anyone hav ideas for the top pannel ? ..
i was thinkin of incorporating an irish flag or erin go bragh flag ...

i got the basic layout planned for the windowed side panel ....

want to use uv reactive green acrlic for the cross ..give it a bit more kick

not certain where to put the cross ....so i showed to possibilities ...

also want to put boondock saints somewhere on the case ....any ideas ?

i had the idea to have " The Saints" on the other siden panel ....the t being the cross again ....

yeah if u have noticed i have an obsession with the cross ..think it was such an outstanding image in the movie ...the rosaries the brothers wear....

thinking of gettin a custom fan grill of it done for the top panel if i decide on adding a fan there ..
or on the bottom corner of the window ....help cool my sli cards.....would this juz look too crowded ??

any opinions are welcome

I absolutly love that movie!!! one of the best films i've ever seen.

On the front panel i would stealth the dvd drive and have the cross as tall as the 4 drive bays.

Maybe a cool idea for the prayer would be to paint it in ancient text

If you're artistic, take that and break it down to a more simple back-and-white only image and etch it into a clear acryllicwindow, backed with black acryllic. Put white LEDs into the sides of the acryllic window so that when it lit up, it would show the faces super-bright and clear but the rest of the clear woudl remain transparent. Like below:

Only the white areas would be etched, leaving you an awesome effect when it lit up, but otherwise rather normal if not.

the idea for the etching is awesome ...8)
dont think i would do it for the main window ...juz makes things a bit cluttered ...and cant see my dfi mobo :D hehee

only prob is im having trouble getting hold of a dremel this side of the world ...
once i do ...that etch is deff a must ...*two thumbs up*

I like option A more for the placement of the cross, but if you ever plan on adding a second CD drive you're screwed. So I'd probably go with the second option.

Anyways, awesome idea! What a great movie to make a mod for!

for the cross over the drives, you could section the cross off by just cutting the number of slits in it as the number of drives. then you could add more, and each section could open freely

I would do the cross on the front bays, have the picture or prayer etched into the window and the two words like you have them.

Do some research into what that saying really means and it makes the movie better.

over to asia (we generally only get major hollywood flicks) ...
but i spent some time in canada and discovered this great movie ....

Actually, that's not a bad idea for this case. You could stealth the power supply inside a "broken air duct", with a tangle of rope (your shrouded wires) hanging out of them.

Find me a good picture of it and I'll make you a good silouette. High contast lighting really, really helps.

That's easy. Just wire the LED to the hard disk activity header on the motherboard. If you need more than one LED it becomes more tricky, you'll need something to switch the LEDs. It's still fairly simple though. Let us know if it's more than one LED.

Ouch... not a great source picture. I'll see what I can do, though. Good thing I got my Wacom tablet back from work. Give me a little while.

How serious are you about this mod? This is something that will take me a few hours of work to do, and no offense but I'd rather not waste the time if this isn't a project you're pretty serious about. If you're only just sort of thinking about this as an idea and not as a serious project, please say so.

Quick & Dirty...

Okay, I have a preliminary image for you... it still needs some clean-up, the guy on the right needs some detialing on his sleeve, and the dude on the left is still rough and kind of looks... Quasimodo-ish, but it's a good start and a quick half-hour sketch, and should make a decent guide. I can provide a larger version, if you want. If I get more time, I'll try to do a bit more clean-up, too, if you want.

cleaned up a bit. anything white would be etched, anything black would be left clear. mount quarter-inch clear plexi over black acryllic, illuminate from the sides, and voila. The thin lines would be just barely scratched into the surface with a VERY thin dremel point.

k, cleaned a bit more and thickened the lines. The thin lines are just about impossible to etch properly, and will bleed light, so I thickened and improved some of the larger white areas. The center face is still too bright, and seems to overpower the image, but for the most part it's almost completed.

Your thoughts?

the size i plan for the window is 11" by 11" ...is that too big for the design ..

I could certainly make it 11"x11". It won't be ultra-crisp, but it will basically be serving as a guide for your etching anyway, so it doesn't need to be.

I'm still noticing a lot of things that need to be cleaned up, that will make it a lot easier to etch. I'll try to play with it tonight, if I get time. I'm having fun working ona drawing project like this - realistic, drawn in negative, from a source pic. It's a nice chance to practice a new style and get a bit more comfortable with the tablet. I'll try to include some separate layers for you to work with, too, to make the work a little easier. How comfortable do you think you'll be doing the etch?

you'll probably want to do some of the thinner lines with an exacto blade, but the dremel should be perfect for most of the other areas. I'll try to get the final version done by the end of this weekend, depending on time.

ok had some issues come up and well had to spend a but load of cash on changing my mobo psu and processor .....
anyhow im gettin back on the mod ...and was wondering if anyone has any new ideas

If done right... This is going to be a SWEET mod! That has to be one of the greatest movies of all time. As for your fan grills... well you can do the cross, or you can have two guns cross eachother. Thats just two idea's you can do. I would have the window taken to a professional and have them laser etch it since I dont really have an idea of your skill and it looks like it would be not only hard to do.. but required to be well done since it is a great movie. Are you sure you are up to this? There is alot of fans of that movie and if it turns out not so great looking... it might upset a few people. Not trying to rain on your skills or anything... I am just saying because I dont know what kind of skills you got. In any case... give it some real good thought before you start to attempt this. If you dont think your up to this kind of challenge then feel free to pass it off to someone else. We wont get mad or anything. It happens all the time actualy. Keep in mind again that I am not saying that you are not capable of doing this project, I am just saying that you are going to want to do it right or you are going to have some online assasins :D. You could keep it simple too if you dont have the skills to do some of the harder stuff. Like etching in that kind of detail. Well I hope I said something useful for yah! lol

adding windows and blowholes ....
i am getting the window etching lasercut cause well i kno i will bugger it up :P
i plan to get the grills machine cut from a guy i kno as well ...
main thing is sorting out the overall design ....
im in the process of doin up some new sketches so u all can get an idea of my plans ....
wanna do some custom wire jobs for fans....not to sure about for the lighting as last time i did only half the bulb would light =S
basically want to use audio connections for the power ....saw it done somewhere ...looks nice and neat ;) any advice on this any1 ....
the main complications i see with the case is the electrical ...
since thats my main weakness ......
ive been a minature model painter for yrs (warhammer 40k and other games workshop models) and done a bit of stenciling and other artsy things over the yrs ...so i dont find that outside my boudaries....
any advice and ideas would b greatly appreciated ...

You could etch, not sure if that is the right term, the cross into the front bezel. Possibly so that the horizontal bar coresponds with the DVD rom stealth.

I like the idea but dont think i can ...cause the front panel is mesh ..
