Project: Shockwave
HI all. I have been admiring the work you guys have been doin for a while and i decided i beeter do my own mod. The case i am starting with is a Cooler Master Cavalier, you can see it http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811119075.
The color scheme for this mod is going to be blue and black. The outside of the case is going to be mostly blue while the inside of the case is going to be black lit up with blue lights. Well anywasy on to the worklog.
This weekend i didn't have to much time so all i wanted to do was get the top panel off. I wanted to get this off for painting, which will start in a few weeks. The reason this took effort at all it that it was riveted on. So i needed to drill out the rivits.
Never start a day of moding without a goodbreakfast:D .
Here is the case with The side and front panels off.
Close up of one of the rivets.
And from what i can tell there are tree in the front,
and four in the back.
After some drilling i got one of the rivets out here is a close up.
I decided i would use sheet metal screws to take place of most of the rivets.
After some more drilling i had all of the seven rivets out.
Front
and back
.
But wait when i try to lift it up it won't budge:? . After a bit of examining i find there are more rivets that need to be drilled out:mad: . In these pics there is a red circle around every othe rivet that had to be taken out.
Right side,
and left side.
.
I now had all the rivets off of the top so i gave it a tug and it came off.
Here is a pic of the ever stubborn top.
And the topless case.
More on this mod later,
WIWM.

Re: Project: Shockwave
Looks good. Are you going to paint those little quick access tabs on the inside of the case (for the hds and PCI slots and stuff)? I would paint them something like UV green and then put some UV lights in the case to make them really pop.
Looks good.

Re: Project: Shockwave
Sounds good, i might have to go with UV blue though:D, or take them out all together, they kinda bug me.
-
Re: Project: Shockwave
Lol, I like them personally. I wish my old cases had them...

Re: Project: Shockwave
Here is a pic of the case without the quick access tabs ove the 5.25 and 3.5 bays for comparison.
More later,

Re: Project: Shockwave
Hello Mr. update how do you do?
So it's been a while since the last update sorry. i have been busy. Got exams commin up:mad: . Well any ways on to the main show.
I got my PSU from UPS five days late. but whatever.
Oooooooh. How pretty.
Pre-sleeved cables. You know it8).
Well enough on the PSU lets see some modding.
So the project i decided to tackle is a kind of different project. The front of my case has a curved door on it, but on the inside of the door it is curved too.(See below)
Here is from the top.
Well anyways i didn't like that curve so i decided to fill the gap in so it would be flat. I decided i would cover it with plexiglass. I am going to frost the plexi glass and put two 4" blue cc behind it for a cool glow8) . PICS.
Here is rough cut of bottom piece, still needs to be sanded down to match blue part.
After a bit of sanding and filling it was done.
And the the top piece.
Top piece in its place in door.
Now for the side piece.
Cut out. Thank you table saw for straight edges.
Well thats what i have goten done recently, hope you enjoy!
Gonna try to wet sand the plexi this weekend.
More Later,
WIWM.

Looks good! I like your idea with the frosted plexi and leveling it out.

Re: Project: Shockwave
Revived from the depths of the third page. Sorry i haven't updated in a while. Couldn't do to much for a while because my mom made me put everything back in there boxes and store them away:mad: . Well i suppose when your workshop is the kitchen/living room you might have to relocate. Thats all gonna change soon because me and my dad are cleaning the garage so i will have a place to work :D. Oh yeah i also installed the windows vista beta so that took. Anyways on to the show.
Frosted all of the pieces of plexi by sanding them with 800. These are the pics after the first sessin of sanding.
Front.
Top
I wasn't satisfied with the panels so i sanded them again.
Front, which took a long time to get it even.
Top.
Bottom.
Then I put them in place and took some pics. When it is done there is going to be two 4" blue CC behind the plexi.

Re: Project: Shockwave
Here is another update brought to you buy Wishiwasmodding.
Well today i decided to finish drilling out the rivets in my case. Earlier in this project i decided i would drill out all my rivets in my case and replace them with screws. The reason i am doing this is to make it easier to dissasemble if i have to do something with the case later. In total i drilled out 33 rivets to get the case fully torn down.
In the begining i started with this.
Then after some quality time with my drill i had all these pieces.
WIWM OUT.
