Dead iPod
Hey guys
I got an iPod for xmas two years ago, and have since had to have it replaced once, last september. It broke again, everything works fine but it gives me the "file exclamation message". Do you think any one will wanna still buy it? Mod material?
WHAT SHOULD I DO WITH THIS SMALL, BROKEN HARD DRIVE!?

Re: Dead iPod
What kind of iPod? What generation, anyways?

Re: Dead iPod
It's a gen 4 20gb. I am taking one last stab at repairing it. I really can't be bothered too much to fix it, I have tried like 80 times in the past few years of owning it.. the thing sucks.

Re: Dead iPod
UPDATE: I took the ipod apart. I disloded the most ridiculously small soldering point, I'll be selling the individual parts. Let me know if any one has any interest before I list this puppy on eBay.

Re: Dead iPod
Lol thats the only part of any real value, that'll definately be going on eBay. Sorry :[
I have to get atleast half the value out of this thing off eBay to justify the short time that I've had this piece of crap... 300 bucks and now this! I'll be satisfied if I can get $150 back.

Re: Dead iPod
Funny thing.
I got my 3rd Gen iPod offa ebay for 100$.
It's 10gb, touch everything, etc.
I've washed it thrice, dropped it tiwce, it's been bashed into my skull once, bashed agianst my desk thrice, and ran over (by a bycicle!) once.
And it's just fine.

Re: Dead iPod
assuming it still works after you disloged the soder point or if you repaired it you should try reseting it from diskmode i think the command is when the apple logo shows up hold Select and Pause and hold them till its says OK to disconnect on the screen
sorry if this isnt helpfull i dont much like or work with IPods other then helping my brothers every now and then also note IMO your gona have a hard time geting 150 for the HD id keep the display screen never know when someones gona think up a way to use it in a mod =>

Re: Dead iPod
Thanks for the words of wisdom guys. I have tried absolutely everything with this iPod, and there is no way I could ever solder it back. I can hardly see the points without a magnifying glass.
My computer wouldn't recognize it, I couldn't charge it, reset it, nothing.

Re: Dead iPod
Get away from disk based mp3 players and go to flash based. Iriver makes some wonderfully small tough little flash mp3 players.

Re: Dead iPod
I wish they made affordable flash players with a realistic amount of storage. I use the 30gb Creative Zen Vision: M, have about 19gb of music, four movies and a huge amount of podcasts on there, plus most of my image collection and a ton of contacts. I could never use a 1gb MP3 player - I'd rather just get a MP3 Discman and burn some MP3 CDs if I were to go that way, I'd be able to switch out my music collection in seconds.
