Re: XBox on computer screen
Yes, tuners will do the Job. I recommend using an internal tuner if possible. And price wise just remember, you get what you pay for. I bought an Dell Angel USB tuner recently and it's great except I can't get the darn computer to use the a/v inputs. So make sure you read up on the product so you won't be dissapointed. Of course I know a way around my problem, I just have to connect through a VCR with A/V inputs. But I wish I could get the product to work as designed. Anyways that's my 2 cents.

Re: XBox on computer screen
That reminds me, I should put my xBox back up on my desk and get my RCA to headphone converter.
Re: XBox on computer screen
Would this do it?

Edit: Actually, can anybody suggest a good one that I could hook my XBox up to that runs on Linux, specifically Ubuntu? I just noticed the one I posted doesn't have Linux as a supported desktop, and since this will be going in a primarily Linux-based computer, I need it to work under Linux and Windows.
Re: XBox on computer screen
for windows yes most likely it'll do, linux? I haven't the foggiest.
Re: XBox on computer screen
That would really work? Don't you need at least the yellow and white connecters? Is that what the blank connecter is?
Also, how does this work together with my video card?
And I just realized something: None of the video cards on Newegg say that they are supported in Linux. So I think if I get a TV tuner, I'm not going to worry about that. Unless someone here thinks I should.
Re: XBox on computer screen
Actually if you want a method that doesn't rely on a computer, meaning no worries for linux compat., (i assume youre not planning on capturing the video from an xbox) get a Component to VGA adapter like X2VGA, the just forward that into a KVM so you can share your monitor with a PC.
X2VGA: http://x2vga.com
I know some people who use it and it works for them very nicely. Not to mention this has better quality.
My 2¢.
Re: XBox on computer screen
either could work... the card you mentioned is like I said, you get what you pay for but it has a standard video input, the sound may only plug in one port but it should work. The other idea cheztir could really work well for you, maybe it isn't too expensive.
Re: XBox on computer screen
Buy a TV Tuner. I personally suggest the Radeon All In Wonder series, those are top of the line video cards, and have tv tuners.
Then go to you're local Ebgames and Gamestop, pick up the RCA cable for the xbox. Simply plug that sucker in, and turn the xbbox on.
Re: XBox on computer screen
I would get an AIW, but since this will be on a primarily Linux machine and Linux and ATI don't mix so well (or it's at least makes more work than I want to go through to get it working good) I want something that won't be terribly hard to configure.
cheztir, that box looks nice, but sadly, anything over about $40 is too much for my budget.
I will probably buy a TV tuner card soon (meaing in the next month hopefully) and I will try to get it working on my current Linux machine. If it doesn't work, I will just have to use XP since I plan on dual-booting just not using XP for much other than games.
But thank you for all the help everyone!
Re: XBox on computer screen
I recommend Diamond brand for tV Tuners. I have one from them, I would have to give them 9/10, Although they do break easily.
The xbox cable should be around $20 if I am correct.
Re: XBox on computer screen
Do I need another? I still have the one from when I bought it but is there a special one that I need for a TV tuner?
I will look into Diamond then, since that's the only recommendation I have.
Re: XBox on computer screen
here you go dude, wat you want at the price you want it...

Re: XBox on computer screen

Re: XBox on computer screen
Yes, I guess you can go with that one. Also here is the cable you need.

Re: XBox on computer screen
They make direct Xbox to VGA cables, no adapters.
Re: XBox on computer screen
They do? Where do you buy them, like Newegg or or a game website?
Edit: Does anybody know if the cable for the Xbox and Xbox 360 are the same? The one for hooking it up to a tv I mean. Because I can find Xbox 360 to VGA cables, but I can't find any for regular Xboxs.
Re: XBox on computer screen
I've seen better ones before but this is the best one I could find now:
Xbox VGA Box
http://www.builderdepot.com/browse.i...dstoreid=2991#
but you can just search froogle.com for: xbox vga -360
you have to put the "-360" so it excludes Xbox 360 VGA cables which everyone makes...
Re: XBox on computer screen
Man, if it's going to cost me $40 for one of those boxes, I might as well just get a TV tuner card and be able to have the option of watching TV as well. Too bad there aren't any plain cables like there are for the 360 (Or at least, I couldn't find one, even on eBay).
Re: XBox on computer screen
The VGA cables for the 360 are like $35 anyway, but with that box you'll get a much clearer image than with a tv tuner, that's why I recommended it.
Re: XBox on computer screen
Well, since I just e-mailed the support for the Encore TV tuner, and it doesn't work under Linux, I guess I'll probably end up getting one of those boxes.
