1971 Dodge Super Bee Mod

As previously stated this Mod is for my In Laws. Since CLOWNED is complete and a present for my mom, I thought my In laws should get a mod too, to replace their 500MHz Gateway. They or my wife have no knowledge of this project. Thus far I only have the following components:

(1) 80GB Seagate HD
(1) AMD Opteron 165 (1.8GHz) Dual Core
(1) Green Aspire X-Discovery Case

I will act as though the top of the case is the hood. Since I have limited ability in making a good looking scoop, I will be mounting an engine in the top of the case. The engine is the Dodge 426 Hemi. I want to tie in a 20mm fan that once cooled the Northbridge chipset to the crank. I'm hoping it will spin the engine fan without makiung it fall apart, but I won't know till I try.

Here's some concept pics of what I'm looking to do. I used Google Sketchup and then did a print screen to save them as .jpg's. The concept pics aren't final. I still need to add the stripes to the concept pics.

No offence, but why dial-up?

Anyway, great idea, the mental picture it gives off makes me anticipate it's finish.

It's actually just in case. My in laws won't be accessing the internet at all. DSL/Cable is not available in thier area and they only have a cell phone. But if they were ever to get a phone line, it'll be there.

I got the case in the mail and as you can see it's not nearly as bright of a green as the website showed. But that's great, because it's even closer to the color of the car!

Also, I tested the engine spinning idea with the use of an 80mm fan and it just doesn't have the torque to spin it. There's more ways ahead.

Here's some updated concept pics.

I took the windowed panel off and disassembled the fan and grill. As you can see they added this nice little piece of mesh too. I won't be reusing the grill, but I do like the mesh.

Another nice feature is the removable mobo tray.

The right panel has an awfully convenient place for the "HEMI" window.

And as you can see I've already begun the painting.

Here's the paint I'm using. A nice flat black.

I also cut a small angle to show the bend of the stripe.

I've been meaning to mention for a long time how nice it is to have this mini spotlight.

I marked off the width for the right stripe. It has to be identical to the left.

Then I roughed up the paint....

...and slapped it on.

Looks good, again.

The motherboard I got is the DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D is mine. I still have to get the Video Card, Memory, Heatsink, DVD drive and the front panel LCD.

Here's the right side cut.

I got the logo. It's 6 inches in diameter, the case is 8 inches. The logo here is yellow, but it doesn't matter I just need the black parts. I'll cut away all the yellow and slap it on, then clear coat over it.

I popped out the drive bay covers and removed the front glass.

Then taped off the front panel

I painted the bay covers separately

Then painted the vents. After it dried I made sure that none of the vents was clogged.

Then removed the paint tape

Lastly, I slapped the covers back on.

the case already looks a lot better !!!

oh.. i forgot to look at the price :( if i had the bucks (and the posibility to buy it online) i would take it! it would probably be very hard to make this by yourself, if possible.. and maybe the materials wouldnt be 100 bucks, but the machines and experience would be :(

You're right, that green is REALLY close to the original car color. I think this is going to be a terriffic mod, and look forward to the end result. :)

What if I get a cheap $10 mailbox and cut it at the dotted line and use the curved part for the scoop?

Case looks good so far alot of the work got taken out of it for you as it came the right colour.

Soild line up. Those Opteron's are hard to come buy but you can overclock the hell out of em. Hope you do.

I was wondering, since this is a car theme mod, should I get one of these?

that cup holder n cig lighter might be a way to go. If you dont smoke you could always take that out and put something intresting there...use ur imagination:D

They have those plugs at Walmart and stuff that turn it into a light.

Even though it is cool I would't put one in as you might get a few spills on the case from having coffee in such close promixity to it. And the coffee gets sticky and is a pain to remove. So I don't think it would be safe to put one in unless the person was really carefull but we all have our moments. BTW nice logo.

Duh, I just remembered. The case has a piece of glass over the front, so you'd have to open the glass door then use the cup holder. I think it would look stupid.

Also,

This is my concept for the top with the scoop. I haven't settled on what will be IN the scoop, but it would probably be illuminated exhaust fans and a different type of mesh than what comes with the Hood scoop.
