What web browser do you prefer?
Hey guys, I was just wondering what web browsers you all use. I personally use firefox, but i have a couple of other web browsers downloaded. At the moment im useing Camino and it seems to be alot faster than firefox. Ive also got Opera though and i was wondering what you guys thought about it.
Do any of you use opera? If so, what do you like/dislike about it.
Thanks guys.

Re: What web browser do you prefer?
Used to use Opera on linux exclusively before they started charging for it. I now use _only_ Firefox since I am tired of trying to learn new browsers.

Re: What web browser do you prefer?
Thats actually why i was asking, in the couple of minutes i messed around in opera it seemed as though it had alot of features. I know most would say well thats a good thing, but to me... its just a bunch of stuff i have to learn, and in reality, im probably not going to use half of it. I usually start up a web browser and go directly to the preferences and just start deactivating stuff like crazy.
*shrug* I think half the reason i downloaded it was because i have this odd urge to collect web browsers.
When did they start charging for opera? I got it for free on my Mac... or do they just charge the Linux users? I haven't had it for that long, maybe a couple of months.

Re: What web browser do you prefer?
They charge for Opera?
BTW, I use Firefox.
Shouldn't we have a poll on this thread?

Re: What web browser do you prefer?
I didnt know i could make one... :? Ive never done a poll.
Edit: poll added

Re: What web browser do you prefer?
I use Firefox, basically for the same reason as Airbozo. I've use Opera for a long time, but had some problems with it, so I switched back to Firefox. Internet Explorer 7 is a big improvment for microsoft, but, still consider it as a problem. I will probably try Camino in a near uture, will see...

Re: What web browser do you prefer?
They _used_ to charge for Opera, once it took off several years ago. They must have figured that they could make some $$ of of it to continue development. Once they started charging for it, no-one I know ever upgraded. They stopped charging a couple years later once it was clear that they were the only one charging for a browser. I think that they still charge for some of their products, like the ones for phones and DS's. I will say that at the time I was impressed by opera and only stopped using it when I could not upgrade it.

Re: What web browser do you prefer?
I just installed Camino on my G5. I must agree, it's alot faster then Firefox. I'll see in a couple of days how far this browser can go, but for now, it look nice

I think the most commonly cited reason for it being better is that it is supposed to be more secure. Im not exactly sure why. I like it because i can download extensions; sort of like little add ons that give it more functionality, and i can also get custom themes for it.

Re: What web browser do you prefer?
Firefox for me, less bugs, more user friendly, gets me where i want to go quickly and comfortably =] I used to use IE but the bugs are just endless. Glitches here, problems there... I recommend anyone stuck on IE to move to Firefox.

Re: What web browser do you prefer?
IE is integrated into vital parts of Windows. If it really gets screwed up, so will Windows.
Firefox is third party and operates in the same realm as most programs in Windows. If it develops issues, then it will be contained in just the program, not your OS.
IE7 isn't that bad. I'll be waiting until the first or second service pack before I'll install it and give it the old college try.

Re: What web browser do you prefer?
Another FF user here. I started using it a while ago and love it!

So, if you haven't figured it out from that, I use Firefox, though looking at Opera did make me want to try it out.

network.http.max-connections-per-server [Integer] (16) - This setting determines how many simultaneous connections can be made to a single server. The default is 8, however you can increase the value for broadband connections to something like 16 or 32 to attempt to increase browsing speed. The maximum is 255, however note that raising this setting to a high value (in conjunction with a high value for the network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-.* settings below) may be construed as a DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack by some servers and your connection may be refused or even permanently banned. I strongly suggest that you keep this value sane. Simply increasing the number of connections to a server doesn't necessarily make things any faster, and indeed if every Firefox user does this then overall most sites will become slower.
two access the above to change the value type About:Config in the address bar in FF and hit enter

Re: What web browser do you prefer?
Since Fx is winning hands down, how many of you are aware of this 'trick'?
If you use the bookmarks toolbar, and the site in question has a favicon, then that icon appears in the toolbar alongside the name, once you've used it.
Now, if you have lots of bookmarks there, it's possible to go to each bookmark's properties and delete their names.
They will then sit much closer together, so you can have more, and as long as you recognise the icon you can still see what they are.
If you're not sure, you can hover over them to see the url.

Re: What web browser do you prefer?
Some good tips coming from you guys, +rep for you.
I might try that tip for speeding up Firefox, not sure yet. I was always put off by the warning about people going crazy and slowing down the internet for everyone else.

Re: What web browser do you prefer?
How about this:
You can drag and drop the previous button and adress-bar to the menu-bar at the very top. This way you only have the titlebar (blue) and another bar (menu and adress, grey). This saves a lot of space, especially on lower resolutions this is really helpful.
(sorry about the language, I use a dutch version of firefox)

Huh? :?
That doesn't work here...
I'm using version 2.0.0.1
If I want more space, I use F11

Re: What web browser do you prefer?
click view --> toolbars --> edit and _then_ drag and drop...
sorry for the misunderstanding. It deffinatly works in FF2.0 because I use that too.

Re: What web browser do you prefer?
My firefox is set up like that too.
Firefox:
Camino is even smaller.
The address bar is hidden till i click location. I click search to get the search bar.

I used FireTune on my FF. It seemed to work fairly well.

Re: What web browser do you prefer?
luciusad2004, are you running OSX or is that a skin for XP?
There is an add-on on the Mozilla site called FasterFox. I used it awhile ago and it worked pretty well.

Im running OS X. I dont really do skins on my pc, it always ends up running slow. Plus its my mom's boyfriend's computer and there are so many users that its just a mess to work on, so i usually just do important stuff on my laptop.
