That's not much horsepower pushing that car. It's just the way it was designed to make it streamlined. Here's a couple of my personal favorite videos.

I like how in the video, the Saudi guy passes another Bugatti on his way out. Did anyone else see that? That's the guy we buy oil from.

Re: Bugatti Veyron + Rich Saudi Arabian Guy = SWEET
Bugatti is cool and all but it ain't nothing compared to the nitro drags of the jet cars ive seen both Nitro drags have 2500hp calculated (they don't measure that high.) and the big time nitros have 6000hp (john force cars) And the jet cars have well a jet engine in the middle they have hit 300mph
Ive seen this one

At that place too.

Yeh but you cant pick up a chic in a nitro funny car and go get a slurpee. Its more about speed, comfort and style, not flat out hp.

ROFL. This reminds me of Dane Cook:

I like the style of the Bugatti veyron. All it needs is a centrifugal supercharger and its set :p.
<slurpee sounds good :D/>

they will not do 253 MPH and live to tell about it--just some grease monkeys in a garage with too much turbo. It would leave the ground or disintergrate. The Bugatti rides at 253 as if on rails.

I don't think the Bugatti would survive a 1/4 mile either.

yeah its not set up for the 1/4. But it does it in about 8 seconds at 155mph ;)

Re: Bugatti Veyron + Rich Saudi Arabian Guy = SWEET
I was just sitting there going
Zero to 400 km/h: 55 s 8)
I love that a special key that lowers the car and makes it more aero dynamic. I swear if that car hit a 50c piece sitting on the road it would go into orbit.
Also what gets me is. It is faster then an F1 car but has air con, Stereo and a boot to.
The problem with a car like that is you would go through tires so quickly. But I guess if you can afford the car you can afford new tires every week.
Any one got any spare change for the buy Simon a Bugatti fund?

Re: Bugatti Veyron + Rich Saudi Arabian Guy = SWEET
It would be cheaper to buy Bugatti a Simon.

i heard someone say, the Veyron does not have a lot of horsepower.... it has 1001 hp !!! don't you think that is enough, for a drivable car
oh simon, its not faster than a an F1 car, yeah it may go to 400+ km/h, but it will not go around a corner as fast as an F1 car ! its not all about top speed
put the veyron and an F1 car on a track, and the one seater will run circles around the angry bug

I guess that is true. On a F1 track a F1 would be able to keep a higher overall speed while the Veyron would only be good on the straight.
-
Re: Bugatti Veyron + Rich Saudi Arabian Guy = SWEET
and one other thing
a F1 engine is restricted to 3 liters natural aspirated and 1.5 liters if its forced induction (turbo or super charging)
So a F1 v12 engine puts out roughly 800 hp from 3 liters of fuel
they veyron needs w16 with 4 turbo chargers to make 1001 hp
just to get it into perspective
-

Its because the F1 cars use such a small V12 engine (easy to cool, lots of hp) that it only uses 3 liters. I think it would be fun to mod the Bugatti though <money/> :D
-
Re: Bugatti Veyron + Rich Saudi Arabian Guy = SWEET
Thing is F1 engines are so light they only last one race apparently.
So the Veyron is heavy car with a heavyier engine one that is made to last.
I love that. At 400km/h the tyres last 50mins. But the fuel only lasts another 13mins. lol

They Veyron does have 1k bhp... but it consumes aproximately 2000 hp cooling the engine. Yeah, I'm not ****ing around.
Between water pumps, oil pumps, fans for the water radiators, oil radiators, etc etc... there goes 2000 hp in cooling. COOLING!
So, if you think about it, the engine makes around 3000hp.
It's absurd, really.
Fun.
I love engineering.
Fast. Quick. Terminology.
Depends on which F1 track...
I'm positive the Veyron will woop an 2007 F1's ass around the Nurburghring [sp?].
Around a smaller track? Say, Monaco?
Damn straight the F1 will woop the Veyron.
"angry bug" LOL LOL LOL
Bugatti was such a great company.
Ettore Bugatti, when asked why he didn't install hydrualic brakes in his cars, is quoted as replying
Quote:
I don't build my cars for stopping. I build them for going.
Damn straight.
He drove his company two times to the ground.
He was really an artist that made cars.
Not much of an engineer, if you ask me.

The key element here is weight.
The Veyron weights a freaking ****load, compared to an F1 car.
Colin Chapman (w00t Brits!), is quoted:::
Quote:
For speed and agility, add lightness.
I love that quote.
(for those of you that don't know, Mr. Chapman founded nothing less that Lotus Cars... ohh sweet Europas.)

This is in the spirit of TBCS, no flame-wars... just discussion.
GT40, where you get that?
If I'm not mistaken, the 2007 rules for F1 have V8 engines.
F1 hasn't used V12 since... uff... various years (half a decade?).
And they don't permit turbo and/or supercharging (officially called SuperTurboCharging).
For example, if given the choice between a 3liter aspirated, and a 1.5 boosted, I'd go with the boosted any freaking day of the century.
Slap a three-phase turbo system in there, and produce what? 60? 80? 120 psi of boost?
google when possible, "F1 turbo era".
You'll see engines under 1.3 liters (that's 1,300 cc people!!!) making OVER 1,500 HP in qualifying trim.
ANOTHER point:::
Last year, F1 placed new rules that would have you use the same engine, tires and setup that you used in Qualifying, for the start of the race.
This is an important point, because before, F1 had basically two cars.
The Qualifying cars, and the Race cars.
The Qualifying cars were an ENTIRELY different beast than the Race car.
Smaller brakes (wouldn't last 4 laps)... smaller air ducts (not much cooling, but less drag).
Higher downforce...
Different engine maps/software settings.
Different shocks/springs.
Different tires.
Smaller fuel tank.
Etc.
etc. etc. etc. etc. and etc. for ever and ever.
So, the 800hp could be the race car... but those figures are HIGHLY guarded.
Case-in-Point::: Ferrari supplies engines to Renault, but if Renault so much as turns/loosens one of the restricted nuts/bolts of that engine, they're going to get a legal ass whoopin'.
Basically, Renault is running engines that they can't open up.
Although the F1 makes more power with less displacement, and no turbos, you have to keep in mind that the Veyron CAN (yes, yes, it CAN) be used as a Daily Driver.
I would HARDLY call an F1 car a daily driver (crap... with a 5,500 RPM IDLE speed!).
They Veyron will last years... the F1... it doesn't last 1.003 races.

Again, I don't think F1 has used a V12 engine configuration for over half a decade.
And I *think* the displacement limit on the V10s was 2.9 liters... I am really not sure about that figure.
As to cooling, maybe you ain't aware of it, but did you know that, the hotter you can run an engine, the more efficient it'll be? The more power it'll produce?
Problem is, damaging the parts... and isolating the intake air and fuel from the high temps.
But ideally, damn, we'd be running engines at 1,500 degrees.

But the veyron is a production car. Take all your racing cars out of the equation and what do you have to compare it with?

Veyron's is 250ish.
The F1 will reach it first, only to be passed by the Veyron, what? 9 seconds later?

Not entirely true.
Chassis is built in England.
Engines, and the finish of the entire car is built in the USA.
In addition, all other components, are built, engineered, and manufactured in the USA.

So, in recollection, your comment is completely wrong.

I’ll try to make this comment as easy as possible, because, to be quite honest, IT PISSES ME OFF.
Look, you freaking moron… The UNITED STATED OF AMERICA DID build a car, and it DID save our lives…
And wow, come to think of it, it saved ALL your lives over in Europe. All the lives in Planet Earth!

You’ve ‘mastered’ cars?
Hmm… I wonder how you “in europe” have mastered cars more than the people in America… or the people in Japan/Korea.
No… the USA didn’t invent the car.
Your point, is totally moot because,
1st, you brought it up your self.
A self-created ‘comment’ to serve your needs.
2nd, it was Karl Benz that did a tricycle, which is considered the first car in the world.
What the USA did, one-handedly by a guy name Henry Ford (respect!), was to introduce the ‘assembly line’ idea to the manufacturing of vehicles.
Get your history straight, young grasshopper.

Volvo cars, is owned by the PAG – Premiere Automotive Group, which is a Ford company. (PAG = Volvo, Jaguar, Aston Martin)
It doesn’t even MAKE SENSE that Volvo builds the high performance Fords.

You get hit by a freaking MOTORCYCLE in that thing and there’s a high chance of dying.
It has no air conditioning… no ‘respectable’ safety systems…
It’s a FREAKING KIT CAR!!!

Thank you for liking my ramblings... I though it was written in vain.
It's just that I'm a nerd for wierd datums.
Did you know that F1 cars fill their tires mainly with Nitrogen?
Know why?
Cause if they fill them with air, when the tire gets hot, the water in the air will change phase to vapor... and it'll increase the pressure... and change the characteristics of the tire (shape, rebound, contact patch, etc.)
(( tellin' ya... I'm a nerd ))

I completely see, and agree to your point.
Lots of things come by the use of turbos.
Systems like you said (intercoolers, upgraded oil systems, fuel system upgrades, etc.)....
And Turbo Lag, definitely a pain in the ass.
I just picked the boosted engine cause... well, we're in Dreamy Dream Land.
I'd just rather have 80 hp under 5,000 rpm... then suddenly have that spike up to 1,200hp when I cross 5,700 rpm.
But yeah... I'm with you...
Turbo lag isn't something very friendly.
Although, manufacturers constantly make great strides in reducing it (I'm itchin' to test drive the new Porsche Turbo... with them variable cam-lobes, variable intake-length runners, variable-angle valves for the exhaust side of the turbos... etc.

The Skyline is very much a badass prod car. Nissans are awesome. My truck has the same 6 cyl VQ35 engine as the Skyline and 350Z (although the Skyline has the upgraded twin turbo VQ35DE )--for an SUV it has lots of balls, even moreso than some V8's.. Also, it's Ward's top 10 engine of the year for 13 years straight. They know engines.

Re: Bugatti Veyron + Rich Saudi Arabian Guy = SWEET
I know im coming in a bit late but the bugatti veyron is not only designed for sheer speed, the car also has (almost) racing-level handling. The Car & Driver review stated that though it had 1001hp, the rest of its specs kept on par with that. please somebody find that article online for me. My favorite part was when he took it on the Autobahn (is that spelled right?) and waved at a ferrari as he was going 190mph!

I <3 Nissan :D. Also, I agree with AJ@PR. Just gloating about cars in Europe doesn't prove anything. The only car I can see being awesome that actually came from Europe is the TVR Tuscan. Sure they hit high speeds. But WHERE THE HELL in Europe are you going to find a 6 mile straightaway that you can drive 250 MPH? Surely, you can find them here <I-95/>, but nowhere in Europe is there a road with that length (except maybe a test track, if they even have one). Also, don't diss Ford. You have only seen the little small block 4 cylinders over there. I have a 1997 F-350 7.3 liter turbodiesel (525 HP, even more torque). I would like to see a little thing over there pull 18,000 pounds. Fords are built tough, and if you don't like it, deal with it.
Anyways, the F1 does NOT hit only 180 MPH. It so happens to hit 235 MPH.
