I'll start with an example. In the fantasy novels by Terry Pratchett, there's a post office in the city of Ankh Morpork with this sign on the door:

(There are no typos above; it's spelt that way in the book. Ankh Morpork grammar leaves a lot to be desired.)

Anyway, i was thinking that i would be a good idea to actually lay down the rules on what we don't want to hear about on these boards. People seem to have missed the rules which says the last word belongs to the moderators & Admins; i.e. what we say goes. Perhaps a list of what we don't want to hear will help. I'll go first and stick some things on; make some suggestions, and i'll ensure that something like this gets added to the new rules (hopefully, somewhere at the top, so people can see it).

So without further ado;

DON'T ASK/TELL US ABOUT:
Medical Problems
Illegal Software
Porno
Coffee
Free Stuff

Feel free to add to the list. You can be a bit silly if you like, but try not to take it too far.

Never mind.. like someone said, growing pains.

If you like your sigs, why not just post them and discuss them in the one that I made - alot less hastle than making a ton of threads and more friendly than not posting at all!

I didn't mean it, I was just trying to be helpful, and I've purposely tried to keep all mine in the same place.

I just want people to use some common sense, we don't want TBCS to degrade into the crap that fills the web.

:edit: Just re-read this post, and it comes across a bit (a lot) self centred. However, all the bs seemed to start about the time the sig requests thread was started. Thats what I was getting at.

This is not your own personal BLOG site. I don't care to know if your colon is spastic or what you had for breakfast. If you feel the need to share all the funky little things about yourself that you feel the world needs to know, go start a blog and see if anyone cares.

What I don't want to see? well the only thing I have seen that bugged me... is all these what we should and shouldn't do threads.

again I haven't seen anything out of sorts except several threads discussing the same topic but this has already been addressed.

You said no free stuff.... what if its free computer stuff... not that that will ever happen. But anyway we do already have a "Good deals" thread tucked away around here some were don't we?

I find the recent atmosphere very disappointing. Part of what makes a community comfortable and rewarding to be a part of is one's ability to express themselves freely within it. Of course the usual suspects (illegal issues, porn, violence, etc...) don't belong here, but I really feel that if we limit the subject matter (coffee??? how the heck is this problematic?) that our members can share with one another, then we should just eliminate the Chatterbox altogether as it is way too confusing for many to decipher what is "off topic" in a forum labeled "generalized OT discussion". Just my humble opinion.

Sadly, I concur. It seems that a few people have forgotten what OT means. To me, it's a small window into everyone else's world and seeing what cool (and not so cool) things are happening.

Ultimately, it's Paul's site. If he wishes to do away with The Chatterbox, then so be it.

The problems occured when people were creating multiple threads on the same damn subject. How many "Hey look at my new sig" threads do we need? People posting about "Where to get free coffee" in the Hot Hardware section when they've already made a 4 page thread about coffee in the Chatterbox.

Use the SEARCH function to find threads on the same topic and ADD to it. It's not that difficult to do. Let's just drop it.
