Re: project: Black and White p160

I'll tell you what i think.
Nice colors. They work well together, and the actual paintjob looks really great. I wouldn't have expected black and white to work so well together, but you've managed to pull it off incredibly well. You've also managed to keep most of the original case with clever little tweaks that make it unique, but still look factor fresh. Your blowhole looks good, nice and centered, although being honest i think you tried to hide those screws and failed a bit; maybe something to put over them would finish the job, like a little cap?
The mesh...the mesh i don't really like. I think it looks a little flimsy, but i know from experience that it can be hard to work with, and you've done a great job with what you've used, no problems there. I personally would have picked a finer mesh. But you've done a great job and this is probably a matter of taste.
Your photography is excellent, (although 2 of your photos are fuzzy) and you've showcased some of the best parts of your case, but we're missing the classic shots: take one from the front left top and the front right top, showing your case in all it's glory, and i promise to give you more feedback!
Overall, a very sexy looking case, and a good job. +Rep for sharing, and welcome to TBCS!
EDIT: Sorry! I posted this while you were still throwing out pics! I see you felt the same way about those screws, the new screws look sweet! I'll give you more feedback when you're done!

Re: project: Black and White p160
thanks man. i will post nicer pics of the case soon..as i am not done yet.
I plan to paint some kinda of logo saying black and white on the right side panel, and maybe put that etch where the cd drives go, and light it white....i am also modding the (imo) ugly top part of the front panel.
The logo i had planned.
-
Re: project: Black and White p160
The logo's nice. Subtle. I like it. :)

Re: project: Black and White p160
I like your use of the mesh.
-
Re: project: Black and White p160
totally off topic but i noticed you figured out what size screws fans use plz do tell i can never figure out and i need more since i keep losing them
-
Re: project: Black and White p160
Yeah i wanted the logo to be simple so it stands out but not too much...also cause it will be easyer to paint.
The screws...i just guessed and bought some lol. They are actually not long enough i need to get some new ones.
Anyways i am gonna do some more today will update in a few hours.
-
Re: project: Black and White p160
Well i cbf really doing anything much today but i cut the etch out so i can put it in the cd drive bays.
I will prob spray the logo onto the right side panel tomorrow.

Re: project: Black and White p160
theres alot of nice features to your mod here, very nice color scheme but, not a huge fan of the etching myself, maybe bubble letter outlines instead of a huge chunk taken out of the plexi would look better to me, but it's up to you how you do it :)
+rep still

It'll look better without the plastic cover, you want and see ;)

Re: project: Black and White p160
Thanks all. Too windy to paint today so ill do the white logo tomorrow.
@ Cagedconnerman and azminisk8r yeah i thought i went a lil deep into it but it looks pretty nice when lit. I am gonna light it with some white leds :P
@ intergalacticman.......What you mean "stamped" ? lol

I think he means is it a single perforated sheet of metal or is it intertwined wire.

Re: project: Black and White p160
Ahhhhhh i think its just intertwined wire.
-
Re: project: Black and White p160
yeah thats what i mean.
how does the intertwined wire work for you?
i thought it would be harder to work with since its an uneven surface

Re: project: Black and White p160
I just cut it with some wire snips. Its quite soft easy to cut and bend.
I painted the etch so i will post pics tomorrow showing you what its turned out like.

Re: project: Black and White p160
This seems to have opened up a can of worms?
Obviously Smokin Pig knows best as it is he who has the mesh.......
BUT it looks suspiciously like expanded pattern metal(XPM) to me
not interlocked wire (especially the white fan grill close up). It is also know as expanded metal and whole load of other names
Simply it is produced but cutting slots in a sheet of metal and pulling it apart in tangentially (ie at 90 deg or so ) to the direction of the slot cuts:
http://farm1.static.flickr.com/209/4...02e181.jpg?v=0
If it was interwoven wire it may come apart as it is cut (if the ends are not connected or the wires welded where they touch other wires).
:? Anyway what do I know :? I am not the one fitting it to my computer.
And Smoking Pig this mod is looking real fine, keep it up, I like this project, clean and simple lines, very sophisticated. I like.

Re: project: Black and White p160
You can find that mesh at any lowes or Home depot. it is gutter helmut type material.
Great Idea by the way!

Re: project: Black and White p160
Intrance its that type of mesh. I dont really know anything about how they make it so out ofthe wire one and the preferated one i thought it must be wire.
but this pic.the mesh looks exactly the same as mine.
Anyways. I got around to painting the etch and starting to make the bit where all the power buttons and such will go cause i thought the stock bit looked ugly.
I bent the perspex with my oven/a jet lighter.
Excuse the bad photos, Im not too good with the camera and its hard to take photos of such reflective surfaces.

Re: project: Black and White p160
wow, sry i ever doubted u, that acrylic look AWESOME with the black paint behind it
-
Re: project: Black and White p160

Re: project: Black and White p160
Ok! tomorrow ima drill the perspex for the top part of the case i re-made,painted the white logo onto the black right side and get some leds and maybe cathodes for the inside lighting!
-
Re: project: Black and White p160
Ok i havent really done much in the last few days, but! i managed to **** up the black and white logo i was painting onto the side.
As you can see i didnt quite mask it off properly. I think im going to try painting the whole panel white, cutting the letters out onto some clear contact paper sticking them on and painting the panel black.
advice?
-
Re: project: Black and White p160
hmmmm...
Roll with it. I say the little over-spray gives it a unique look. Almost looks like you intended to do it and if someone asks, tell them you did. However, it is your mod and it should grow into the creation you have in your mind.
Never quite and never become satisfied; by doing so only destroys your dreams.
Anyways.. I think its looking good +rep.
-
Re: project: Black and White p160
Yeah i think a lil overspray around the letters looks cool but that big patch on the left looks like **** ><
-
Re: project: Black and White p160
Well ive got off my ass and done some more on the case ^^ nearly done.
I will post pics tomorrow arvo...
i fixed the logo on the right side panel and ive made new covers to replace the mesh that was over the hdds and the top part of the case.
-
Re: project: Black and White p160
Kay here are the promised photos.
I hope you like it.
-
Re: project: Black and White p160
Nice love the handles and the paint.
Um won't the plexi covers around the drives stop airflow in the case?
Because cooling works well with air flowing in the front over the cards and out the back.
-
Re: project: Black and White p160
Yea im gonna make some small holes in the piece of perspex on the left side and the fan in the blow hole is gonna be blowing air into the case.
-
Re: project: Black and White p160
I painted the hdd cover and the cover for the top part of the case, also i painted the small part that is replacing where the switches were before....but i kinda screwed it so ill have to bondo it up a bit to fix it.
I also fixed the black and white logo and it looks secks now ^^
The hdd cover.
Its really hard to get good photos of the glossy white and black ><
Cover for the top part of the case.
And the part with the buttons.I really have to fix this up with some bondo ><
Hope you like.

Re: project: Black and White p160
I have a question. What exactly does clear coat do and should i bother with it? :P also what is the best way to apply it if i wanna use it?
-
Re: project: Black and White p160
Clear coating protects the paint from slight scratches and dings. If you put enough clear coats down (most newer vehicles have 8 to 10 clear coats IIRC) and wetsand inbetween coats, you'll get the classic 'wet' look like you see on many classic cars that are custom built.
Edit--I'm pretty sure we've got some guides in the tutorial section.
-
Re: project: Black and White p160
Thanks Drum thumper. I guess i will buy some clear coat and cover the case with it. This is a small update i didnt really do that much just painted a few things and took photos on the covers in the case.
Thats all for today, Ill do some more this weekend or on monday.

Love the case, the cover over the drve bay is very nice, great paint job. Hopefuly the cover doesn't block the airflow.
