-Goals-
I would like to develop my previous design, lots of hot air was blown directly onto other components last time, thats gonna change, all the disks will go in the middle module, while the main comps stay in their own on top and bottom, there will be no more "PSU in the top right corner" type of thing, got OCZ on the team this time, and they will provide some awesome custom powersupplies for this project
to sum it up :
* 3 mobo slots (gonna get in a mATX instead of the mITX)
* seperate disk case
* seperate comp case
* watercooled cpu's/gpu's
* TO HELL WITH PLEXI, god i hate that material...
* YES to andonized, cnc'ed alu :P
* fully welded alu frame

A new day, a new set of renders !
Hi again guys, finally done with some more renders, have had some more time on my hand's

Re: [project]6th GeN. 30TB TriplX
Yet another day, and lots of plans and ideas keep emerging :P
(and yea, here we go again ^^ )
The windtunnel
As alot of you know, harddrives produce ALOT of heat when they are stacked up together, and tbh... having around 40 disks in a single box without any way of getting it out efficient will end in disaster and lotsa defective disks.
Building a windtunnel should prevent most of this, a windtunnel is basically a piece of whatever that controlls the way of airflow, in my case it will be buildt with 5mm plexi (god forbid) and will be housing 3x 80mm fans at low RPM, these fans will pull cold air outside the case, and the larger 250mm fans in the back will push hot air out
On to the consepts!

Re: [project]6th GeN. 30TB TriplX
Waterblocks decided upon aswell now, gonna go for OCZ HydroFlow HF-MK1 on all 3 mobo's ^^
*gottalovecopypaste*
HydroFlow HF-MK1 CPU Waterblock / For AMD, AM2, 775, 1366 / Core i7 Compatible
Designed with the highest possible exchange rate between the block and coolant, the HydroFlow can be easily integrated into any enthusiast water cooled system and help efficiently lower the processor temperature. The HydroFlow is compatible with AMD and Intel processors, including the latest generation Core i7 CPUs.
The triangular fins in the HF-MK1 provide the highest volume to surface ratio of any geometric shape for best dissipation possible, and this special design also creates sufficient turbulence to eliminate the “skin” effect caused by laminar flow. The base block of the HydroFlow increases center contact with the processor core for the greatest possible cooling potential, ensuring maximum exchange and functionality between the waterblock and CPU.
Whether you’re a first-time builder or a seasoned case-modder, OCZ makes the HydroFlow easy to integrate into your rig by supplying both high-flow 3/8” and 1/2” barbs in the packaging without the hassle of searching for compatible hardware.

Re: [project]6th GeN. 30TB TriplX
FINALLY, a update :P had my hands full with all kinds of stuff lately, so havent had much time to spare =/
anyways...
Lian Li HDD holder's
Maybe not the best with the mod spirit in mid,but its undoubtly one of the greater products for anti vibrating disks on the market :P 16x of them have been ordered, should be sporting a total of 48 disk slots !! and with lightweight alu ^^
Lian Li mobo tray
The same goes with this one, will keep stuff in place, 1 for the top, 1 for the bottom, and 1 for the middle, should be able to fit 2 fullsize atx and 1 m-atx this time around ^^
Oh... wait... 30 meters of square alu is on the way aswell ^^
-
Re: [project]6th GeN. 30TB TriplX
BTW, got a new toy to play with aswell ^^
-
Re: [project]6th GeN. 30TB TriplX
A new day has come ^^
And time for a update, hopefully updates will come somewhat faster from now on :P
one of those LARGE boxes arrived today...
And guess whats inside!
3x lian li mobo plates! omfg ^^
aaaand....
A bunch of lian li hdd holders, should be possible to house 3 disks in each of these, each with their own rubber ringed screws :P
Have to get these things assembled in sections of 8 and 8, one for the top of the middle case, and one for the bottom
If everything goes after plan, the aluminium for the frame should arrive the upcoming tuesday ^^
-
Re: [project]6th GeN. 30TB TriplX
The aluminium squares have been ordered up for the frame now, ended up on the following:
345x25x25mm - 08x
250x25x25mm - 14x
550x25x25mm - 14x
800x25x25mm - 04x
Gonna be ALOT of cutting and welding taking place soon, alu should arrive on tuesday, 20 meters ordered up ^^ 2mm tick
-
Re: [project]6th GeN. 30TB TriplX
And this would be the welding plans for now =)
-
Re: [project]6th GeN. 30TB TriplX
counted it up just now... 166x60x30cm WITHOUT feet -.-
Bloody hell... didnt think it would end up at those sizes, lol
kinda thinking about building one large ass box instead of 2 mini and 1 medium
-
Re: [project]6th GeN. 30TB TriplX
A new day, new opportunities =)
As mentioned , more then 20 meters(!!!) of 25x25x2mm aluminium have been cut up today in appropriate lenghts..
The welding will start the upcoming thursday most likely, some results will finally show by then, OCZ have sendt 3x of their hyrdoflow aswell today, so should receive them sometime soon :P
Placed up the stuff i allready received just to see if everything fit as it should, and it really seem promissing this far, however... the middle mobo tray is rotated the wrong way :P have to cut and fit it to the mATX standard first :P
Next week this little fella will be visited =)
And for those of you that wanna see how a CNC Hecksaw works, click here
And a small view of the plating thats been ordered ^^

Re: [project]6th GeN. 30TB TriplX
Time to pick stuff appart! YAaAaaY!
For some reason is having a front mounted screen really cool and hip these days... so how could this project be anything less =)
Front mounted screens are supposedly used for computer monitoring or something...
In the lack of something better to do i decided to get the planned screen out of its precious little hideout...
Todays victim :
1x HP Compaq EVO 620
With the outrageous :
1.5ghz dual core pentium M
1gb memory
80gb hdd
15.5" LCD screen
it even comes with a xp home licence :P
And yes... i know it will count up as a 4th computer... but hey... need something to run the screen aswell 0.o
Ran out of time, ill do a write up later =) enjoy the pics for now
-
Re: [project]6th GeN. 30TB TriplX
Hi again guys !
Had some more time at my hands so have been able to work a bit more on the screen and towards making some screen mounts to align the screen flat on the laptop, u wouldnt believe how small the screws used for stuff like this is .... talking about a half mm tick or something.... such a pain in the ass to get ahold off in the local stores
Found a decent 1mm alu plate down in the working area... cut off a suitable piece and drilled some holes to get the screen attached..
Crazy small...
Screen mounted up in its vertical position =) hopefully this should look good
Aaand the other side =)
There we go.... screen mounted up on the laptop, just flipped over the opposite was as normal, still have to solder some wires for the on/off button and the thumbstick =)
Another thing that came to my attention today was the lian li brackets placed beneath the disk holders... that allow the holder to be removed from its baseplate... in my little world cant i really see the use of stuff like this beside taking alot of space... a decent 2 cm buildup on each of em...
U can see the height difference quite well... they have to go...
8 done... gotta love hecksaws... *truly hate em* -.-
should be able to start putting the rack together tomorrowish =) so a large update will come by then
x88x : a touch panel would be sweet :P throw me a pm if u see someone selling it, untill then ill just have to move the thumbpad outside the case or use BT =)

Re: [project]6th GeN. 30TB TriplX
Thx alot for the support guys =) Ill do my best, hehe
Got a delivery from OCZ today !
After a couple of days in transit the Hydroflow's arrived at the shop =) The finish look's awesome this far... and its delivered with both 3/8" and 1/2" nozzles ^^
Cant wait to get em mounted up, just have to decide on wich motherboards to go for 0.o
-
Re: [project]6th GeN. 30TB TriplX
Have done quite a bit of work today, the entire frame is now ready to go, gotta love Forsa knots ^^
-
Re: [project]6th GeN. 30TB TriplX
Building my case in a MC shop my friend, so those objects are somewhat common around there =)
Offtopic :
A few pics of the shop ^^

Re: [project]6th GeN. 30TB TriplX
Just got a mail from my iron monger, some of the aluminium will arrive tomorrow afternoon, expect a update soon folks =) should also get 4x 360 radiators along with the alu...
Have to figure out how many loops that will be needed when considering the practical aspect
Current plans for watercooling would be :
2x 4870x2
1x 4870 - 1GB
8x DDR3 OCZ FlexX
4x DDR2 OCZ FlexX
3x CPU's
3x chipset's, not sure about this one yet though, but stuff tends to get hot without any fan's mounted to the CPU =)
unknown amount of and reservoirs , pumps will be needed aswell
-
Re: [project]6th GeN. 30TB TriplX
Guys !
Anyone know if its possible to get a chipset block on the MSI 790FX-GD70? In that case, wich? =)

Re: [project]6th GeN. 30TB TriplX
This is a great day indeed !
AMD has decided to join up on this project aswell... in other words, everything will be going full fledged AMD - AM3/Phenom 2/AM2. Alot has changed with the phenom 2 from previous generations, so going to give AMD my full support in this build =)
Hardware changes :
CPU 1 : from Intel Q9550 -> Phenom II 955
CPU 2 : from intel Q9550 -> Phenom II 955
CPU 3 : from Intel Atom 330 -> Phenom II 955
Mobo 1 : Asus P5Q premium (775) -> MSI 790FX-GD70 AM3
Mobo 2 : Asus P5Q premium (775) -> MSI 790FX-GD70 AM3
Mobo 3 : Intel D945GCLF2D mITX -> Asus M3A78-T AM2

Re: [project]6th GeN. 30TB TriplX
Thats kinda the issue in the first place :P
There will be close to NO airflow in the top and bottom case as all of the items in there will be watercooled 0.o
Could allways put up a active fan on the SB/Mos though
-
Re: [project]6th GeN. 30TB TriplX
Hi guys!
Been a stressfull day with lotsa stuff to do, but managed to get some more work done on the case today =)
got the hdd holders in place atleast, its still somewhat crude though, need some polishing and filing ^^
Ah well... ill write down some more stuff soon, gonna post a ****load of pics now ^^
http://grevaeg.com/images/case010/tg240609/
Made a quick image gallery for those of you who want some larger pics ;O
Here we go ... Visited my iron monger earlier this week and picked up some 5mm alu for the harddrive frame, should be sturdy enough.. however, have to cut it down as much as possible due to the massive weight..
Tape has allways been a decent tool for creativity :P
So out with the jiggzaw and start cutting... think i wasted 1 blade for each plate i cut...
Rubber mountings have been used to prevent the harddrive holders from getting any vibrations out troughout the case
Holes was then cut out both to allow heat to travel around and partly to reduce weight... a 80mm hole of 5mm alu is easily 100g, close to a half kilo's off with just those holes, and hey... it looks somewhat cool :P
Please check out the image gallery linked above for now guys, ill write up some more soon :P
oh oh, and heres a small update on whats coming next :P
-
Re: [project]6th GeN. 30TB TriplX
3x 910w PCP&C Silencer, a motherboard tray, a 17" screen up front of em, and fanducts in front + 4x 250mm fans for airflow =)
-
Re: [project]6th GeN. 30TB TriplX
Small update today my friends..
Picked up a package the other day, wonder whats inside... lol
Gotta love those small classy boxes ^^
Ahold! The allmighty Phenom II 955 x4 :P Should receive the MSI boards the upcoming wednesday, so will be able to mount some stuff up by then hopefully...
-
Re: [project]6th GeN. 30TB TriplX
Hi guys!
Time for a update again =)
Been quite busy with solidworks today, finalizing the more boring parts of this case for the laser to prosess. So should have the first batch of basic pieces tomorrow hopefully
Been curious about what type of PSU's that will be powering up this cute thing? Guess ill throw out some workorders =) a HUGE thanks to OCZ for making this possible aswell..... wouldnt be possible without em
Behold.... the allmighty PC Power & Cooling Silencer 910w
PSU 1 : 24x sata, 4x molex, 4x PCIx - Technical drawing
PSU 2 : 18x sata, 7x molex, 4x PCIx - Technical drawing
PSU 3 : 18x sata, 7x molex, 4x PCIx - Technical drawing
Expect a large update tomorrow guys =)
8x 250mm fans should be arriving along with 3 water res', 2 MSI mobo's, and some arctic silver, and the alu is hopefully delivered tomorrow aswell 0.o
-
Re: [project]6th GeN. 30TB TriplX
Hey guys! have had some time on my case again now, so heres a update ! ^^
The HDD rack
As most of you probably have noticed have the HDD rack been somewhat doubtfull when it comes to a 25KG load of harddrives, so decided to cut up some more 5 mm alu for em, and mount em together, still had to keep the space in between though, since a mobo and the PSU's are coming in at some point
Have also been drilling some holes to get the new bolts in to hold stuff together, ill be able to mill out some proper support's between the rack tomorrow, just didnt have enough time to finish today =)
Laz0rz!
OMFG, have seen a large ass CNC laser cutter in action today... quite a show... it managed to cut up a 2x2500x1250mm alu plate in under 12 minutes... now thats impressive..
However... have lost my bloody car keys somewhere. such a pain... had to take the 2nd best and get some tape to get the job done... gogo MC with alu tail or something..
Perfect fit? yes... would say so ^^
Front and back for middle module
And the 17" LCD thats getting mounted up front :P (failed to mention that earlier, lol)
First looks on the top module ^^
And some de-assembled mobo plate....
... Placed down on the new backplate for the top module =)
-
Re: [project]6th GeN. 30TB TriplX
A new sponsor has joined up, Anfi-Tec will be providing full cover blocks for the MSI 790FX-GD70 boards
And yea... alot has been done yesterday... and even more today, update coming later today, stay tuned! ^^
-
Re: [project]6th GeN. 30TB TriplX
Hi guys,
Gonna post up some pics of some work done yesterday, have completed the screen mount now, thats going for the midsection of the case
Worked it out from a 2mm alu plate
-
Re: [project]6th GeN. 30TB TriplX
Norway is probably THE warmest country in the world right now... especially when ur working inside a large ass building with stainless steel plating -.-
Anyways.... beside the freaking hot weather these days, what have Mr.Grevaeg been working on? ^^
His project ofcourse!
Some general progress pics
yes, its shrinked :P ill get back to this one
The first set of 360 twin radiators
After quite alot of thoughts and ideas on how to fit 4x 360 rads and 2x 240, ive finally found a solution for the first and second pair ^^
Theres alot of space on the bottom of each module, might aswell use it for something :P
sooo.... placed em up, and got the 1/2" fittings in (why would people ever bother using anything less btw?!)
The water ress . x3
Swiftech got some really cute water ress'es, they seem somewhat small, but really, why would u need 10 gallons in a ress? also comes with a fillport in the top, and possibilities to mount up nozzles at top, side and bottom, cant get much better then that imo
PCP&C Silencer 910w !
Well my friends, they have arrived... and god.. ive never seen that many cables loose outside a case in my life... ill prolly have weeks infront of me to manage these. But then again, OCZ provided a perfect cut after measure's by me, so they deserve a huge applause for the work and dedication they put in their PSU's, still cant wait to get em up running, managed to plug one of em in and start em up, have heard alot of rumors that they are quite noisy, but i have to disagree there, no way in hell they are producing more then 26DB'ish
lets get some pics out, shall we ? ^^
Guess thats all for now guys, ill work on getting some spacers on the bottom module tommorrow, and hopefully get ready to ship it for wet sanding within a few days, stay tuned ^^

Re: [project]6th GeN. 30TB TriplX
Hi guys, small update today, ill just let the images speak :P
-
Re: [project]6th GeN. 30TB TriplX
Hi guys! update today :P
Lets start up with a few words of frustration... since the cables comes unsleeved... i guess someone would have to pick it up and do some work on it... and guess what! that person would be me -.-
I just tell myself..One day... ill get these bloody cables managed...
a few of em got wrapped up today though, and more to come!
Plug's, Pin's and awesome homemade tools!
As most of you noticed doesnt the HDD cables come sleeved.... only one thing to do in this matter! just pick it all appart, and wish for good luck on the re-assembly ^^
u all remember were the start was....
Some trial and error had to be done before getting a decent result :P
Didnt find anything suitable to push the cables into the sata power plugs, so had to improvice somewhat... turned out great, pushing cables like crazy ^^
Now u see it, now u dont!
Been working on some ideas on how to hide the rest of the cable mess aswell, and believe ive found a good solution ^^
This would be the bottom of a 2 set piece of cable hiders for the majority of the PSU cables, will also house 4 pin molex for misc power in here, and stuff for cathodes and waterpumps :P
Thats all for today folks, update again tomorrow :P
-
Re: [project]6th GeN. 30TB TriplX
Pump choices up next... any ideas guys? ^^
some requirements :
* able to lift 180cm up
* freferably external power supply (dont wanna be dependant on having the computer running)
* preferably cheaper then 150$ each
* need to be able to fit 3x in the widht of 30cm
* atleast 600l/h to get some troughput
-
Cable management, day 2
Hi guys!
New update today ! running really low on materials now, all from alu to steel, and the plexi have yet to arrive.... so somewhat in a standstill now, ah well.... found a few parts to work on anyways ^^
Whats been done:
* PSU mounts done
* Middle mobo plate mounted
* Front and backplate of mid module finally popped in place
* Started working on consealing the middle PC aswell as all the cables that comes with em
* 2x 240 and 2x 360 radiators arrived
* ordered up 12x 120mm fractal design 16db fans
* ordered up 3x laing pumps
* ordered up hosing and "coolsleeves"
The mobo plate
Well... as you prolly know by now, the PC thats gonna manage most of the disks will be placed in the middle module, up front on the middle module to be exact ^^
Had to file down the back of the spacers to make sure the mobo plate was in touch with the front plate
Drilled a bunch of holes, and popped stuff into place^..
The PSU mount
cmon, its basically just 2 plates of alu with holes in em, not gonna go further into that venture ^^
The secret!
Wonder whats gonna hide behind the lower disk rack... :P oh, and tape measure ftw ^^
Might be able to get some work done tomorrow aswell, time will tell ^^
-Cg
-
Re: [project]6th GeN. 30TB TriplX
Small update guys :P no pics today though ^^
whats been done :
* cut the top module in half (its now the same size as bottom module)
* mounted 4x 360 radiators in top module
* top plate mounted up
Tomorrows shipment
* 2x 240 radiators
* 12x fractal design 120mm 16db fans
* 10x meters of 1/2" tubing
* 110x 120mm golden fan grills... no idea why they sendt me those -.-
Images coming up tomorrow =)
-
Cable management, day 3
Yet another day has gone by.... and finally... rounding 75% done on the HDD cables and sleeving, 6 of the 8 - 6 plug cables are done, oh oh, added some pics of the true top radiator aswell,
Sad enough, didnt receive the 120mm fan's today... or the radiators -.- will pick em up tomorrow though
whats been done
*Cable sleeeeeeeves -.-
*Cable sleeeeeeeves -.-
*Cable soldering -.-
*Cable sleeeeeeeves -.-
*Cable soldering -.-
The frustration is apparent :P
Anyways... heres some pics :
The silencers came with lotsa s-ata power connectors... however... all of em were facing the same way... thats not gonna work with middle placed PSU's with disks above and below, had to cut and rotate half of em
The top box, more rads!
The top box has officially lost 50% of its total height, just like its brother ^^ the top space is not needed at all, and trust me... the case is still bloody HUGE, anyways, another set with 360 rads mounted up, totalling at 4x360 radiators in top, another 2x 240 coming in for the bottom module tomorrow along with the fractal design fans
-
Re: [project]6th GeN. 30TB TriplX
Guys! Guess what?!
The truly worst, most fragile and hated material to work with have arrived, in a small pile, at my office... after a 3 hour drive to pick it up at the "local" retailer (Norway is one of those countries with bad availability of certain stuff, plexi being one of em :P)
Guess i should dedicate a entire article to how much i hate plexiglass, but that will have to go for some other time... and trust me... the list is painfully long when it comes to why i dont like working with it... but hey... it looks good, doesnt it? ^^
So..
Whats been done
* been cutting plexi like crazy on a bladesaw
* measured and drilled holes trough it
* made proper fittings for m6 bolts so it can be mounted to the case
* cut 6x 120mm holes on the top case for radiator ventilation
* been drawing sketches to the cable hiding "system" (also called angled alu plates :P)
Plexi -.-
Well.. the plan was to go for eloxated brushed alu in the first place... but im one of those impatient guys that cant really wait 2 weeks for stuff to be sendt away... worked with... returned and then to be finding that more stuff have to go trough the same process again.
So went off to the local retailer and picked up around 5 square meters of different tickness plexi,
The entire front part of the case is now made out of 5mm clear plexi with 3mm black reflective plexi outside (think PS3 finnish), should be able to put some diodes or cathodes behind it so ill have a nice blue glowing edge around all of it ^^
Also picked up a 8mm tick clear plate to cover the front screen.
All of it tightened up with m6 bolts
And NO, i cant remove the protective plastic before everything is done, its there for a reason :P
Plates all cut up
Showing off the front middle section on the floor ^^
Measure up
And start drilling ^^
The 5mm + 3mm make up the 8mm clear plexi on the front display perfectly =)
Ventilation, top radiator's
Not much air is gonna go trough a 3mm plexi plate, so had to get some holes up and ready for some seriour ventilation :P Oh... and the spacers will be coming back, just had to take em out so i could mount the plates proper :P
The backside of the rads
Would hate to try and read trough this thread with a 56k... lol
Hopefully able to push trough a update tomorrow aswell ^^

Cable management, day 4
One of those sleepnight nights have just struck me yet again... my ladie is off in spain for another 3 days... so nothing much to do home at the moment...
Ah well... guess we just have to fill up the time with other stuff to do ^^ and whats better then some late nigh modding 0.o (no, thats not a serious statement) :P
on the 4th day of my cable management road now, and honest, stuff is cloing in to being nearly invisible as far as cables go atleast, in the middle section though :P the rest havent even been started 0.o
The super PSU cooler thingy!
The PCP&C PSU's have been rumored to excrete quite alot of annoying sound when being warmed up, so would assume that a couple of fan's would help keeping the audible stuff a bit down...
So decided to make a fan duct around all the 3 PSU's to be sure they receive enough air in that somewhat tightened up enviroment ^^
And yes... the small gap between the cable holder and the PSU duct is just a matter of not fastening stuff to the frame yet ^^
Thats all for this night guys, stay tuned tomorrow =)
-
Re: [project]6th GeN. 30TB TriplX
wtf? it's spelled porn? 0.o
After a few days out being really (REALLY) drunk with some friends, i guess its time to get back to work :P however... its quite hard when u cant even lean forward without loosing balance...bloody vodka... lol
The paintjob i due this week, ended up with 2 layers of powder coat this time around aswell.....and alot have to be sanded before starting up with that...
Whats been done
* Mounted fan's
* Made radiator holder
* Finished mobo plate holders
* Sanded up some parts for painting
* Received 40x 100cm angled S-ATA cables
* Worked a bit more on the PSU shroud
With a bit of luck should i receive my shipment from watercooling.co.uk by tuesday, that contains the pumps and the coils for the hoses ^^
What to say... ^^
Afraid my current state of mind aint able to do a proper writeup to the pics :P let the imagination work guys!
