Trying to be smart - outsmarted myself!!
As time passes and experience grows - we all (probably) find ourselves willing to take on bigger tech challenges or more likely to have a go at something we wouldn't have thought about before.
My new phone, an HTC One S has been playing up for a few days - basically the automatic rotate when you turn the phone wasn't working. I spent WAY too much time digging through settings and changing things which might, in any way, get it working again.
After a couple of hours and a few attempts (having given up in frustration more than once) my wife asked "Did you turn it off and back on again?"
That fixed it....
grrrrrr heh

My boss was having an issue with his phone the other day and called me in to check it out. It had completely locked up and was displaying a grey screen. Would not power off. I looked at it for about two seconds, then did a battery pull. Rebooted and working fine. The Engineer didn't think of that. Nor did the other two people who were in the room.

^That, right there, is one reason I got a Thrive: Removeable battery
Re: Trying to be smart - outsmarted myself!!
My Thunderbolt's battery is removable, just the back cover requires sacrificing several fingernails in the attempt. I feel sorry for those poor schmucks who have one of those sealed Apple products. They can't battery pull, just have to go stand in line at the Apple store so some snot-nosed kid can reset their overpriced paperweight.

You know I'm an Apple certified technician, right?
Re: Trying to be smart - outsmarted myself!!
press and hold the power button and home button for 10 seconds.......release when screen turns off? so u dont go into recovery mode?
Re: Trying to be smart - outsmarted myself!!
Unfortunately, the HTC One S also has a non-removable battery so idn what the plan will be if and when something locks up so badly that the power button doesnt work. I can only assume that google will continue to be my friend and there will be a relatively simple reset somehow - if not, I'll finally be happy to only get 1-2 days out of the battery :P
