Thanks that diagram helps visualise things. I have ordered the bits n bobs so they should be here Tuesday.
Also ordered my 15way D-Sub connector to connect the screen via VGA, so fingers crossed the screen may even be up and running in a couple of days.
No doubt I will end up having a few more questions before it works properly but I will update my worklog with the results of what shall be called "The xmastree transistor-ma-jiggy" so you can see how I got on :)

Well, good luck. And don't connect the screen until you're absolutely sure you got the supply working correctly.
You do have a multimeter, don't you?
