Liang DD pump may have died
Hey guys, any of you had a Liang DDC pump just slow down and then (apparently) stop working? I noticed a change in audio pitch last night, and then this morning it seemed to stop entirely. I started a temp monitoring program which, given it showed the CPU increasing in temp, supported the theory that the pump had stopped. I got the machine shut down right away. I'm assuming I'll have to buy a new pump, but I'm wondering if anyone else had encountered this. It's been fine for nearly 2 years; it seemed to die completely out of the blue. Thanks!
PS - I *did* change pump tops from an acrylic top to an acrylic res top a few weeks ago. But it's been working fine and I haven't touched it since then...
Re: Liang DD pump may have died
I've always had my laing ddc's vary in rpm but never slow down to ~normal fan speed or completely stop for that matter. I would get a slave/another pump to take positions of the one in question and test it on a small loop.
It would just be me, but i'd also check the pcb board itself to make sure nothing went. It sounds like your pump is just getting tired and ready to kick the bucket.
Re: Liang DD pump may have died
Just ordered a new 3.25 pump. I'm guessing mine just died - I got it used, and I've had it for 2 years; the guy who had it before me probably ran it a lot too. *sigh....at least I was in front of the computer and got it turned off in time.
Re: Liang DD pump may have died
Should have said something. I have 3 I'm not using that I bought cheapish on Hardforums.

Yea i got mine used as well and to be honest, i'm waiting for the one i bought first to crap out on me. ~80,000 hours of run time, doesn't last long if the computer is on all day for multiple days in a row. :/
Re: Liang DD pump may have died
well 80k hours would give it a lifespan of over 9 years running 24/7 :D
Re: Liang DD pump may have died
Forgot about this thread...I got a new 3.25 pump, and when I pulled the old one out, turns out coolant had gotten onto the PCB and fried it to hell and gone. Smelled real bad too. I'm guessing somehow the O-ring in there failed, so I'm going to minimize the number of times I replace the top on the new pump (ie, switching from the cheapie top to my XSPC res top is the only time I'll ever dismantle it). Anyway, new one's working just fine :D
Re: Liang DD pump may have died
What model DDC was it that fried?
Re: Liang DD pump may have died
I thought it was a 3.2 but I looked at it again and it was a 3.25, blue rotor.
