I read somewhere recently the the US deficit had recently hit one trillion dollars. That's a lot, but think of it like this: If we put a dollar into a piggy bank every single second it would take just over thirty-one thousand years to pay off.

You were about $7 trillion in debt before the bank, auto industry and other bail-outs.
Now no one knows for sure because of all the secrecy but it's about double that now - in nine months.
Your government borrowed the money from the Fed, then gave it back to the Fed (a private bank), is now paying interest on it ... to the Fed ... then the Fed gave it to the banks .... that own the Fed .... the banks that own the Fed are now making healthy profits.
But you all owe roughly around $30,000 more (including each and every one of your children) than you did a year ago. Worth it to save the banks (not).
And the banks are smelling good .....
Goldman Sachs profits up here come the bonuses

$7 trillion??? There I go listening to the mainstream media again. So that's only two hundred seventeen thousand years. (As of nine months ago.)
Excellent points all about no one knowing how far in debt we are. I sure am proud of my country!
(As sarcasm doesn't come across well in text, I'll make it clear: that was sarcasm.)
Does any of this make anyone else feel kind of queasy? I hear Finland is a pretty cool country to live in... :think:Quote:
I've heard the same about Australia. :)
I love that the money I work my ass off with crappy customers is really worth NOTHING... >_<
Canada is doing pretty well.
Such a shame, we had a budget surplus back in 1999. Good thing we elected a president who lowered taxes while simultaneously involving us in a handful of illegal and unnecessary wars! I love the people in my country. To think, we might have actually paid a good chunk of it down by now, good thing George W. Bush saved us from such a terrible fate!
Australia's a pretty cool place :D Although we do have a true retard for a prime minister and were also in debt, but not as much as you guys. Finland would be cool, or Norway, or Sweden. Basically Scandinavia is the place to be.
