Project: PYS - Protect Your System
Hi there.
My name is Christopher aka Arkon. I'm 23 years old an I com from Germany. So be gentle with my english ;)
I'm member of the same German modding-forum as Froop. He told me about this one.
The theme of my mod will be security. While I was an active player I went on many LAN-Partys. After a LAN i heard many times about stolen hardware like keyboard, mouse, complete towers.
My case will be equiped with a 110db alarmsystem, an access cover for the connection of keyboard and so one and a special start-key wich will be used to boot the system and block keyboard and mouse while I'm not at the place.
These are the main projects. Additional the Case will be coverd by plates (PE core with 0,3mm Aluminium on both sides) whicht will look like an armor.
Here are some concept-drawings for the first impressions:
Some statements:
The blue corners will be made of luminated plexi. This plexi will will be between the "armor-plates" too.
The lower left plate will removable. Behind this one will be an window. Possibly it will move automaticly aside. But thats not very easy ;)
The Front is Splitet in two plates. The upper one will move automaticly up and down. This is much easier because the original Case is a SilentMax. Those who know the case will know about the original front. Its also splittet in two parts. The moveable one has a gear rack at its back. A gear wheel breaks the front. This wheel will be attached on a motor.

Here are som of the plates I will use for the "armor":
Then I build some locking mechanism wich will adjust the cover at the back:
They will be detached by a rc-servo.
And then I bolted the firs plates on the case:
At the moment I build many many little angles of aluminium to screw them on the "angle-plates". Without these little angles the large angels won't hold the 90°-angle.

Welcome Christopher! Very cool looking project, I can't wait to see this come together. If you need any help getting settled in don't be afraid to ask, we only bite on occasion. ;)

Okay.
The first half oft the day i have used to prepare a boat for our lifguard-group. In the second half of the day i did a boring job. Manufacturing many of the little aluminium-angles. Drilling, taping and cutting many many times. This is the result:
I hope that are enough. They will be used to hold the larger angles which cover the corners in position. I told you.
Additionaly I added the motor/gear-box to the front:
To find the right transmission was not very easy. After 10 different versions of putting the gearing wheels together I made a transmission of ca 1:850. The front part moves up or down in 10 seconds. Thats fast enough. Perhaps i won't use the complete movement and stop after a few cm.
That's it for today. In the evening i will plan the positions for the screws. With all the plates it's not even easy. But one, two or three bottles of beer will help me to keep a clear mind ;)

Okay. Yesterday I found a solution for the Window-Cover-Problem:
That is the technik of an old HP DeskJet400 Printer. I thougth I can use the guidiance and the actuation for moving the window-cover-plate. This survived my Dremel:
But its to large for the Case so I have to do this by my own:
The will be more mechanik on the carriage. Every four plates should be on the same level. I hope you understand what I mean. I don't know how to explain this :D The movable plate has to lift about 1cm away from the case so it can't collidate with other parts... Oh man... I have to visit the english-course at my comming up semester :D
While searching vor inspiration on material i found this one:
The emergency button has to be used on the mod. I just have to look what I can use it for :D

Yesterday evening I continued with building the slide-away-mechanism für the cover-plate. The assembly should show me the forces needed to move the components:
Unfortunately the movement away from the Case is to rough-running. The cover-plate has to be mounted like shown on the pics. Otherwise I have not enought space for the movement. Caused by this adjustment the bars are clamping in their guiding.
This means the movement has to be stopped until I found an other way for the problem. Damn

Little Update:
A member of the german board I'm from gave me the hint to user different materials for the guiding. My father will look at work for alternatives. Actually I'm using aluminium for the bars AND guiding.
The last two houres I planed some details of the front and startet to build it. This is the result:
I hope new plates and plexi will be delivered tomorrow. And hopefully my neighbour doesn't get the splitter. I pledged him to split wood for him.

Today there is only a text update:
The front is making progres. There are only some cosmetic things to do. Perhaps tomorrow I can show it in motion.
The mecahnism for the cover-plate works lot better with the new materials for the guiding. Some other corrections were done in thie version. A test assembly will show if it finally works.
But another large problem appears: I planed to light the gap between the covering plates with some milky plexiglas as at the "motorized madness"-mod. I thought it will break the light like engraved plexi. But that isn't so. I could also try to light a massiv aluminium plate. There I have to find a solution.
A fake touchscreen will be build for controlling the mechanisms and lightnings.
A german modder will help me to show the status of my alarm device on a LCD.
A compensation tank for the watercooling also has to be build.
