where do you buy your auto colors from? internet or somewhere local? just curious. think I might buy a harbor freight special airbrush and start practicing. (Idaho Falls is finally getting a Harbor Freight!!! wooo!!! lol about time)
Subscribed. Can't wait to see more Rick!!!
Thanks everyone!
So here's some history on the bike. It belongs to a friend. Not sure how many miles are on it, but those fairings were actually pretty chewed up. The owner before him laid the bike down. My friend did all of the plastic and fiberglass work. I primed these with some krylon high build. I know, a regular spray primer would have been much better, but he's buying new plastic next year. So, all of what you see here will have auto air pearlized white with some blue fire coming out of the vents on the fairings. Not a lot, just some really loose unrefined licks. The gas tank, nose cone, and half of the tail piece are all getting pearlized blue; the other half of the tail piece will be white. Unfortunately, I don't have any before pictures.. my friend started sanding and glassing before I could get any. He's a little anxious, but he's gonna check with the guy he bought it from and see if he has any.
Anyway, that's the plans. Wish me luck, this will be my first ever base coat and graphics.
Oh yeah.. the gas tank was repaired and prepped at a body shop. It was dented all over. I'll have pictures of it up on Friday. That's when I'm shooting the blue on it.
Billy - I buy from tcpglobal.com. You can check on auto air's site and see if there are any dealers close to you. The dealer that's close to me (closer to work actually) isn't open when I'm in that area. I started on a HF special. It's actually not a bad brush to get going with. It's all about trigger control and paint reduction.
Cool thanx for the info. I will watch this for sure, and have faith you will do well :)
I'm wanting to do a big paint project on my bike. Good luck!
Before pictures?
The only ones I have are up. Working on others.
Aw, I wish you woulda taken pictures of the bike before you stripped it and everything.
Looking forward to seeing the airbrushing.
Me too my friend stripped it down and neglected to take pictures. Suffice it to say though.. It was ugly. Real ugly.
Skulls? Flames? Chaos and Anarchy?
/sub and a +rep to boot.
Pearl white and pearl blue. The fairings are going white with some really loose blue fire. I'm hoping to have some pictures of the bike in it's current state tomorrow. This will give you guys an idea of how bad the plastic is and how bad those fairings were. I'll have to take pictures of the under side so you can see the glass patches.
So, I bought this yesterday. My first HVLP. It's not a bad little gun.
I got some sealer white sprayed on one of the fairings last night, and the gas tank is sitting in my garage sanded and ready for sealer and blue. I think it's gonna be too cold to spray today though. We went from a high of 87 this week to possible snow showers today. The pictures my buddy took are all on his phone. I gotta bluetooth them to my computer and I'll get them posted.
Looking good, my buddy layed his GSXR down 4 yrs ago and we've been working on it little by little...... you have now motivated me to motivate him and get more stuff done!
Thanks Panda. It's a lot of work, but it's gonna look sick in the end.
It was too cold to do much of anything today. I had a heater in the garage, but when I sprayed the sealer on the gas tank, a little got messed up. That's all sanded and ready for better weather tomorrow. Keep your fingers crossed for sealer and blue pearl! We're ordering the rest of the sealer and the pearl white next Friday. It looks like probably mid May before this project is wrapped.
hell even with just the sealer that fairing looks great. lol

Looks great. Personally I think it looks awesome with no fairings though. :D
Up until now, I had only been taking pictures with my iPhone. Here's some pictures I took with my good camera of the gas tank in the sun. I don't like the texture on the surface. That was caused by not having the gun dialed in, and the paint not atomizing properly when I sprayed the sealer. My friend likes it, so I didn't sand it back down to primer. I think it's gonna look great under some clear.
yea that should look pretty cool with a nice thick coat of clear on it to give it some depth :D
i do hope hes going to do something about those obnoxious yellow rims lol
The color's great, although I'm with you on wanting to sand her back down.
So Here where we stand. All of the pieces in sealer white are getting sanded smooth and prepped for the next coat (ordering more tonight). I want them to be as close to perfectly smooth as possible. I'll probably put two more coats of sealer on before the pearl white. I sprayed 3 light coats of over reduced Pearl blue on the tank last night. We also decided that the tank is too big to leave blank. Here's a test and a teaser of what's gonna go on it.
About the rims. There are plans to do something to them. It's just up in the air as to what. My buddy is eager to ride the bike this season so rim mods will probably be this winter.
little bit of sandblasting to get rid of the color then little bit of clear to protect the bare metal would look nice that brushed look with the blue
We got some work done last night. Actually, more work has been done on the garage itself than anything the last few days. Arranging things so they aren't in the way, sweeping the floor, got some new lights hung, sound system hung and wired. We did get to work on the front end last night though, and we also sanded all of the pieces I sprayed sealer on smooth and prepped them for another coat when the new order gets here (Fedex says April 20th).
Obligatory shot of the garage.
This bike is going to be awesome know SgtM is working on it. Also it's always better to work on projects if your workspace is clean & organized.
Well, since I can't spray any sealer or pearl white, I decided to do some work on the tank.
is that water in a beer glass?????????????????????????????????????????? BLASPHEMY!!!! lol tanks lookin good is there gonna be more or you goin for the minimalist look?
This thing is gonna be awesome!
Yeah, water in a beer glass. I know I know..
Anyway, that's all the fire that's gonna go on the tank. What's really cool about it is I set it all back with the pearl so depending on the angle you're looking at it is how much you see. I have a surprise too, but that will be revealed later.
I've been quietly following this, cool project and nice workspace. Wish I had a garage and get my old sabre out of my mates shed... :(
