Re: Project: Neo ( A mountable small computer on any LED or LCD TV's or Monitors.)

BTW: there are already mounts on the market that adapt right onto the back of a monitor. I will see if I can find part numbers and sources, but they are really cheap. One we will be using for a...

Re: Interesting article

Nice. I have worked on many of these old systems. I agree, if it is working for you, why replace it? 60% uptime is pretty bad though. I could get them closer to 90%...

Re: Replacing a Power Supply Switch?

+1 on the Kill-A-Watt meter. Fry's had the low end model on sale for $13 a couple of weeks ago. I grabbed 2, one for the lab and one for home.

Re: Replacing a Power Supply Switch?

Well,
no matter what PSU you buy, your rig will still only pull a maximum amount of power. Just because you have a 1000W PSU, does not mean it will use more electricity than an 850 PSU. Is it...

Re: Recommendations for Blu-Ray Playback Software

You can try it.
My Blue ray player came with a free version of cyberlink blue ray edition.

VLC is pretty good. It can be used from a simple player to a full on network media streamer.

Can it be some SUN and SGI motherboards or are you looking specifically for PC motherboards?

Re: Monitor Problem?

OK, let me check some of my info to see what the fix is.

I know I have seen this before and the fix was too easy to remember... lol!

Re: Monitor Problem?

Don't give up yet. Even though the main menu only shows those settings, there is much more you can do. Let me dig around a bit. I have seen similar problems that were fairly easy to fix.

What is...

Re: Monitor Problem?

I think it may be your linux settings then. I am not near any linux boxes right now , but check the menus for the settings. Sounds like the refresh rate or resolution is off.

Re: Monitor Problem?

Is it OK during boot up before linux loads?

Could be the linux settings for your display.

Re: Full size tower ATX case

The fans should be a direct replacement and should not require any modding of the chassis (as far as I can tell)

Most of the time you will not need to mod anything in the chassis to add USB ports...

Re: Ebay and cpu's

Depends on the seller.

I've bought a few on ebay when I couldn't find what I needed elsewhere first. I've also sold some used xeons on ebay with good results.

Re: Full size tower ATX case

Some of the thermaltake chassis have lots of drive bays. I was looking for one of the older Armor TT cases, but it looks like they don't make them anymore.

This one: ...

Re: Okay, not everyone's a nerd, but ...

Re: Custom Enclosures - ProtoCase

BTW: I could probably round up a box full of floppy drives for these kinds of projects. We may have at least a couple dozen that are just sitting around and have been for several years.

Re: Custom Enclosures - ProtoCase

Reviving this thread for a new project I am working on. I just submitted a design for a new 2U case to house some HDMI converters. I will take some photo's when I get the case in.

Re: HDD murderers!

Yes, they had issues with their last supplier scrapping it, then it ending up on ebay (big IRS and FDA issues) so they wanted proof of destruction. For a couple of years we destroyed a lot of stuff...
