IMO, migrating isn't too difficult (relatively...) but I've only ever moved non-vital things and it did take a while...
For me, my server migration was:
dump databases
copy /var/www to new...
Been here since 06-03-2007...
And I've done no real mods (yet) due to lack of money and time. :(
Mods have been dreampt up and then tossed aside, but I promise I have something I'm working on......
