I'm pretty new at this myself, so I don't know how much help I'll be. However, I think you'd be okay if it's aluminum or thin steel, if you borrow a Dremel from a friend or get one at the hardware...
Do you have toe model number of the motherboard and/or video card? That might help.
If it's an AGP, make sure the lever's pushed in if there is one. That helps hold it. If the card still...
Mine's PNY, I think. 2x512 PC3200...and it's been running well since June. And I don't know that you'll have problems buying memory that's too fast - mine clocked itself down to PC2700 speed to match...
Well, with cars, it's the performance, but with computers, my yardstick is whether it can run San Andreas. If it can, it's fine, let's mod it.:)
Get something other than this Socket-A Sempron. Maybe a decent AMD-939...*drools*
I used to leave mine too...the only problem is that it doesn't have as much of an effect as you might think since the airflow gets messed up. Runs cooler than stock though.
