Re: Trying to be smart - outsmarted myself!!

    Step 1: Reboot. Always.
  2. Re: Caution: Compiling code on fast computer may cause system shutdown

What's your ambient temp AmEv? I lower my OC a bit in summer. In winter, I crank it up and crack a window when the room starts getting warm. Winter is one hell of a heat sink.

Re: Need Help with 15mw astronomy laser

Whelp, I have a new, expensive hobby. Thanks Oneslowz28!

How far outside of urban areas do you have to go to get such pics? The night sky is usually a dim yellow here. I've always wanted to...

Re: Do I Need to Upgrade my Memory?

I doubt you are utilizing even 2GB of RAM. You could safely experiment with a 1GB RAM drive now (leaving 3GB for the system). Here is a program that will let you create one up to 4GB for free. ...

Re: Ideas and suggestions for Deathproof mod

Paint the case satin black, then the white skull and lightning. Spray paint trim and such chrome. Then smash the front in with a 20lb sledge hammer.

Welcome to TBCS by the way!
  7. Re: Why are Sound Cards not as Competitive as are Video Cards?

Other than enterprise gear, there isn't much that a home user is going to do under normal circumstances to saturate those technologies. ...RAIDing 16+ 500MB/s SSDs on an x4 slot is not normal let...

Re: Do I Need to Upgrade my Memory?

All storage bottlenecks modern PC processors...even SSDs and RAM drives. Just get the fastest/largest storage medium you feel comfortable shelling out for.

What do you typically do on this...

  11. Re: Will Sound-Producing Semiconductors Ever be Feasible?

So people have trouble separating fantasy from reality? Sure, I'd love to live in a few different fantasy worlds, but I don't. Instead of trying in vain to make this world into an impossible...
  12. Re: Will Sound-Producing Semiconductors Ever be Feasible?

So if some breakthrough led to extremely precise audio of better quality than conventional speaker technology, you'd rather it just didn't happen? What if we had just decided the steam engine,...

    Re: 60GB SSDs?

What country are you in? In the US it starts before both Halloween and Thanksgiving. I'm all for capitalism but damn. Dollar signs blot out common sense 99.9% of the time.

    Also, congrats to the...
  14. Re: Will LED's Eventually Replace All Other Illumination and Display Technologies?

Believe it or not, we're all affected by the light around us. In nature, the only real source of light is the sun. Sun light is warm in the morning, cool during the day and then warm again in the...
  15. Re: Why are Sound Cards not as Competitive as are Video Cards?

Nope, I'm an expert in the sarcasm department. In person nobody is sure when I'm being sarcastic or not. Usually, the things that fall out of my mouth aren't as outlandish...but since we're on the...

    Re: 60GB SSDs?

    Seconded on both accounts.

Also, as TGS said, nothing special needs to be done to install or use an SSD. You can tweak it if you are benchmarking but nothing is necessary. They are lightning...

    1000?

I always tell them some crazy low number. I only rack up miles in the winter when I can't bike or walk somewhere though...it's not as much of a lie as they probably suspect.
  23. Re: Why are Sound Cards not as Competitive as are Video Cards?

Are you sure you have all available sound drivers and optional software installed for the on-board audio? Even my $300 netbook comes with a 10-band equalizer and other goodies to fine tune the...
