  1. Re: i miss this forum more than i miss most people....

It definitely wouldn't be from a financial standpoint. You'd be better off spending the amount of any water cooling setup on a new GPU since the 9800 GTX is so old.

But if it's fun and you make...
  2. Re: i miss this forum more than i miss most people....

Steam ID is adventrising, but I go by Boomerbile.

I still lurk. I've been collecting some fairly eclectic parts that will eventually go into a fairly crazy build, but my wife and I have some debt...

Re: Ways of Cloning a Drive?

I've used Macrium Reflect and enjoyed the experience. It was easy enough and I could change partition sizes and clone to a larger or smaller drive (as long as the smaller drive had enough room for...
  4. Re: Is there an advantage to a 4U rack mount case?

I recently purchased the iStarUSA D-313SE-MATX 3U Compact Rackmount case off of ebay for $55. It's a pretty compact case, but technically can fit full ATX if you're willing to sacrifice some hard...

    Re: Multi-monitor problem, possible fix?

Yeah, but you might get away with it using older software. Keep your normal OS on the one machine and make the virtual machine run an older version of XBMC on Linux for your home theater needs.

    Re: Multi-monitor problem, possible fix?

You'd need to set up a virtual machine to get this to work. You could install another OS and run it as if it's another machine. As far as I've ever been able to find, this is the only way to do it.

Re: Looking for a Custom Case

I would volunteer, but my completed mods have all been NES PCs and I'm up to my neck in house remodel.

Is there any reason why you don't want to just buy a Cross Desk?

Re: The Legend of Zelda: the 30th Anniversary

I don't know how they'll celebrate, but it's crazy to think it's been that long. I first beat Zelda with an emulator on PC. I loved that I could use save states to try a dungeon over and over again....

    Welcome Jermin8tor!

I remember when we lost Bucko. It's weird being on a forum long enough that you get to know people, and then weirder when they die and are memorialized, and then weirder still...

  15. Re: Why Do Backup Power Supplies Still Use Lead-Acid Batteries?

Part of planned obsolescence is knowing the speed of innovation. It's knowing the reality that in about 2 years the battery in your phone is going to tank, and that in two years phones are going to...
  16. Re: Why Do Backup Power Supplies Still Use Lead-Acid Batteries?

Lead-acid batteries are also very good at holding a charge for a long time. Ni-Cad, Lithium-ion, and many other batteries don't like to be charged and never used. A backup battery is just that, a...
  17. Re: I/O Shield Question (Involving #50/300 VAlve Steam Machine and a 980Ti)

You tempt me. I've got autocad and calipers. I can make a file if you let me know how to format layers and linetypes. I think existing I/O shield is steel. I'll check the gauge. Where would I get a...

  20. I/O Shield Question (Involving #50/300 VAlve Steam Machine and a 980Ti)

    So, I have this problem.

I recently acquired a Valve built Steam Machine, one of the beta-test machines they sent out to people to test SteamOS.

It came with a GTX 780, but I'm upgrading to a...

  22. I've been searching for this song for a long time

Re: I tried the HTC Vive!

It has two front facing cameras stacked on top of each other. As of yet their use has been speculation only. I have my own theories, but we'll see.

For now I think the focus is on entertainment....
