    Default Video card memory question.

Right, this new mobo I'm fighting with (see my other thread) has built in video. S3 Chrome or something, for which there are no 3D drivers for linux.

I know that nVidia cards are well supported so I'm looking at picking up a cheap one on eBay. The one I'm interested in is a GeForce 6200 256MB but something in the description confuses me:

Implementing TurboCache™ technology, GeForce® 6200 shares the capacity and bandwidth of dedicated video memory and renders available system memory for turbocharged performance with larger overall graphics memory.

    Memory Type: 64MB / 256MB DDR2/DDR3

As long as the system has 1GB of system memory, GeForce 6200 will be able to support up to 256MB of graphics memory

Does that mean 64MB per 256MB of system RAM? that would tie in with the 256/1GB ratio, but I don't understand if this means it has its own RAM or does it share from the system?
FWIW I have 1GB on the motherboardboard.

So, is the 6200 a good board or is there a better option for under £20?

sounds like it has 64mb built in then it can use/share up to 256mbs of your unused ram.

as for a better card under 20, not sure i am looking for a cheap pci card to test/use my new pc until i have the cash for the 8800 ultra.

Well I appear to have bought a 7500 instead. It looks like a slight oddball, but it's Asus branded, as is my motherboard.

    It was certainly cheap enough.
