How the HECK do you use Garry's Mod?

I am a total nOOb to GMod and have absolutley no idea how to start it. Please help, as Digital Utopia has a skin I would really like to use!

Alright, I got it started, but it freezes whenever I try to load a map. The loading bar freezes half way through intialization. Am I missing a step or something? I set sv_cheats to 1, what else do I need to do?

might want to google it once my friend gets home from canada i can ask him but i havent personalyl used garys mod seen some people make some AWSOME movies with it tho

have you got half life 2 and the other requirments? if so can u send them to me plz or tell me where u got them. if not, how the heck did u get it working?!

I'm going to guess he has HL2 and CSS legally. As in he bought them from Valve off of Steam. And if he didn't...

doesnt really matter anyways... altho i own a legit copy of both.. i have tried to get garys mod to work with a illegit version b4.. doesnt work.. and thats even with the older version.. the latest isnt even available without steam i believe... altho there r a quite a few mods that will work with a illegit copy (some with a lil tweaking) garys mod is faaaaar too stubborn

i wanted to try out gmod 10 so i dl'd it and got it working, no online though. then i paid for it as its only $10.
