    Default May switch to SLI

So I have a 7600 GT card, and I'm gonna upgrade to 2gb OCZ pc6400 ram, that's SLI certified. My motherboard is for crossfire, so I was gonna switch to a SLI board. But, are the SLI boards for AMD or Intel better? I know there's a lot of Intel/nVidia setups here, but I'm sure there's gotta be a couple good AM2 SLI boards. Can anyone help me out?

Well if this is any help at all I do not run SLI BUT I have benchmarked this system with SLI as I built a duplicate for a friend. However as he was heavy into gaming he wanted SLI.

Anyways as far as specs go I bought an Asus M2N-Plus SLI "Vista Edition"
Running with an athlon 64 4200 it runs awesome. I do not have a record of the stats that were posted but they were very impressive. As I have always found with AMD, they run on the faster side for less dollar cost. Your main point here is the AMD runs at higher temperatures for the same processing power in most cases.

I have always run AMD so I am a tad biased. But if you need anymore info let me know.
    Peace, love and Anarchy!

well, I was trying not to spend too much money. That would mean I'd need a 775 proc, right?

yup, if you can wait till jan then i'm sure the prices will drop on the "old" q6600 and others.

You think Jan 1st would be better or Black Friday?

The price drops are coming. The new Q6600 with a finer core means a lot less heat and more head room for over clocking. The 8700 may be out by January also. If you want a good performing cheap 6 series chipset, I would recommend the 650i or 680i LT if you are low on funds. The MSI P6N SLI Platinum is a great motherboard and at $245AUS is a pretty good deal.

I have no problem putting out money for a 680i board (as long its not the striker extreme), just worried about processor price. But hey, I guess that's what Black Friday's for. Or the new year.

My current system is fine, I just want to switch to the more top-of-the-line hardware. Seems like 775 is a lot more popular than AM2 because of their higher cache's and higher FSB's, thats why I was gonna make the switch. And I have noticed oc results for the q6600 to be from 2.4ghz to 3.6, that was impressive.

if you can try to get the Q6600 G0 batch then you can get better cooling and oc'ing.
