Default Mini LCD from a track changer, portable cd player

The other day my friend came round and because he knows i like to have a mess with electronic stuff he has gave me this mini LCD. He thinks its from a track changer on a portable cd player so i was wondering what it would take to power this thing up and possibly install something like LCD smartie? If its even possible.
I dont really know much about lcd's in general so i was just wondering if someone could point in the right direction, or tell me if i'm just wasting my time.
    Thanks in advance

This is the end of the cable that comes off it (idk if this helps at all). Seems like a standard earphone plug.

If anymore pictures are needed let me know, not too sure if i can do anything about the blurry pictures
