Default Vista TCP/IP Management - Don't Use TCPOptimizer

Well ... here's a shock ... something Vista does well ... in fact very well:

I heard Vista dynamically manages settings such as the TCP receive window that you can use TCPOptimizer and other programs to set to improve internet surfing performance.

If you use TCPOptimizer on a Vista machine guess what? It slows your internet connection down.

This morning I tried an experiment, having just gone totally wireless at home, and compared the results on DeskPooter (Win XP) and Lappy (Mr Vista) - all tests done using speedtest.net

Before using TCPOptimizer on the Network adapter:

    Lappy .......... 14.8MB/s
    DeskPooter ... 6.4MB/s

After using TCPOptimizer on the Network adapter:

    Lappy .......... 6.2MB/s
    DeskPooter ... 17.3MB/s

DeskPooter I would expect a better performance on when maxed out as she's a higher specified machine.

Soooo .... news is do not try and use TCPOptimizer on Vista. It will slow your connection down.
