    Default Raising 3DMark06 Scores

I ran 3DMark06 on my system for the first time today. With my 8800GT in, I get 12,2**. I suppose it's not bad, but there's a lot higher (granted they are with quad cores and SLI, but...). I've been searching all day trying to find a way to bring it up a little bit more... but to no avail. I flashed EVGA's new BIOS, I'm downloading the new nVidia driver... But the graphics card isn't my concern. My CPU (E6600 @ 3.3GHz) is scoring around 2k... I suppose that's the biggest bottleneck to my system, right? Higher OC will give a higher score?

That's what I was thinking, 12k was looking pretty low.

Also, on the CPU tests, I was getting like, 0.9 FPS?

Dont worry, the cpu test ruins everyone. I was getting like .2 fps on my computer without overclocking anything.

With your graphics in the Nvidia control pannel you can set it for performance and not quality, that will up the graphics score by a bit. Close down all uneeded processes, programs etc that helps the CPU score a bit, and yes overclocking.

us ati tool to oc your video card as well, assuming you haven't touched your card anyway. also look into the arctic cooling accelero S1 for inexspensive cooling. here are some results with a 8800GT and the S1. i have the S2 on my 8600GT and i dropped temps 28C on load. now i never hit 50C while playing games (with not volt mod).

here are my scores, you can see my cpu is holding me back badly.

I would look into different cooling, but the last thing I need for my WC setup is the GPU block. The other HS would be on for probably less than a month and it'd get replaced. Besides, I'm idling at 38C with the fan at 70%. I haven't checked load, but it can't be past 80C . I'll OC the card a little when I get the WC setup.

Also, putting the panel settings to Performance dropped my score .

ahh right i forgot you where w/c'ed.

for the most part performance changes settings so it runs smooth (in games lowers the settings) if there is a quality setting use that as it will sacrifice fps for a higher setting graphic wise. but since the 3dmark is standard and you can't adjust the settings (free version) then i'm not sure what its adjusting.

i would close every program possible (msn, temp programs, anti virus- disconnect the internet if you feel unsure about doing that, etc) push the oc on your cpu and do a little oc on the video card with ati tool and put all fans at 100%.
