    Default Best Motherboard??

This will probably open up a big can of worms but what the heck....

I'm looking for opinions on the best type of mobo, best value, best performance, futurproof etc...

All you modders and gamers will have brands you swear by and obviously have the experience of what works best....so i have complete faith in you all....!

I'm looking to buy one soon, but not sure which to go for, plus this will hopefully start some good discussions on the pros and cons of each...

Well this is a broad question:
    it has several sub-questions:
    SubQ#1: Intel or AMD
    SubQ#2: What chipset
SubQ#3: What components do you want included (ie. NIC, Soundcard, SATA, RAID,etc.)

I'm looking for opinions on the best type of mobo, best value, best performance, futurproof etc...
This should really read "I'm too lazy to read all the thread archives. Spoon feed me the info fast cuz I'm lazy."

Sorry, I'm not going to give you a company/model to buy because I don't know what you plan to do with it (HTPC, game rig, LAN party portable, file server, etc.) and you haven't paid me my consulting fee of $150/hr.

Personaly I'm looking forward to the AMD 4x4's when they come out.
    Here's my reasoning:
    - multi-core processors are the future, dual is available and quad will be soon. This is a given. looking at anything else is going to be old-tech.
    - the Intel Core 2 quadras will be out soon but they are powerhogs and heat monsters.
    - AMD will be out sometime next year (I'm willing to wait)
    - the 4x4 processor is designed to scale up and down based on load (it can shut off individual proccesors inside it) This is my main reason for choosing it. It will be more enery effecient and it will run cooler.

    BTW, welcome to the boards

well i am swaying towards intel, specifically the intel core 2 duo e6600

looking for a versatile mobo, just looking to see what everyone else is using, and any regrets or "i should have bought that one" confessions

I think its allways best to get the best board you can afford,,, everything else is easy to upgrade after you have a nice board to work with.

that chipset is the best for overclocking and that makes it pretty much a great one for anythign else.

i just built a system with a 570 chipset, and i was pretty impressed with it. i here the 590 is nothing but a major improvement.

But you should go AMD anyway.

As the saying goes... "those who know, go AMD"

wrong, intel is taking the lead in everything. only true sentimental users will stick with the sinking AMD boat now. i personally admired AMD and myself was eagerly waiting for news of the "hot new FX-55". Then i saw the X6800 and what was a fantasy became reality... go to intel, read all you can and want, amd is going down unless it can think of something... fast.
