Try turning on the mic boost in the mixer. Also, check to make sure that the mic is selected as a recording source on the mixer.
Are you running the guitar through an amp first, or just straight into the mic port (direct input, or DI)? If DI, you will definitely need to turn on mic boost and crank the volume up.

Audacity is a very good open source audio recording app. Costs nothing, and works with minimal config (none in my case).

Thanks guys Il try that out when I get home oh and the guitar is plugged into the amp then I have a cable from the record out on my amp to my mic port.
