ASUS Trinity
What do you get when you combine 3 (yes I said 3) ATI HD3850s with custom water cooling (re-badged Thermaltake *sigh*)?? Well the answer is simple, you get the ASUS Trinity.

Cool, but I see drivers being an issue.
They also aren't the HD3850's, they are the mobile(laptop) chips on that card. Still 3850's, but don't perform as well, and I don't think they labeled the laptop chip HD, but I am probably wrong. Even if they are the same name, they still are the laptop chips and not the desktop chips.

Now that I've looked into it, it is quite confusing. I assumed they were using laptop 3850's but those aren't released yet as far as I could tell, maybe I was just looking at the wrong place.
I assumed it was laptop because the MXM "socket" is a laptop socket, but I can't find any information on whether or not that socket can accept mainstream chips. Hmmm...
Either way, it is cool to see companies atleast trying something crazy and innovative. Atm I think it is simply like a tech demo type deal, but nonetheless good to see companies trying new things.
Edit: I think they are the mainstream 3850 chips, but just in the mxm modules. I didn't think that they fit, but I guess I was mistaken. I don't know how authentic some of the benchmarks going around for those are, but they are averaging 24k if they are real (with qx9770 though).

If this is for real I can't wait to see some reviews from trusted sources. There is no way I would get one, the power consumption and heat levels would be through the roof. Plus it would be a pain in the ass to try and water cool all 3 cores let alone trying to find a block which is compatible.

I don't think Asus plans to release it, although they may. Then again I never know who to trust with early info as its all random places that get it.
As for the water cooling it looks as though it is the only option for the card, and the block is completely integrated with the card. You just get your watercooling and hook up the tubing to the leads off the card. At least that is what it looks like.
All the sources I've seen put it up near the 9800GX2 benchmark wise. Then again how reliable these are I have no clue as I dont trust most of that crap, but atm its all we have.

The modular design on that thing could really tear the industry wide open if they played their cards right, IMO. Imagine buying one daughter board with open slots and one onboard, giving you the option for more cores/mem. If they did it right, the older cores could be used on a new card that had the new shader models and the likes, while still using the power of the others for everything they do perfectly fine.
I would love to see the different cooling solutions if these made it to market.
