So what are they trying to do? It looks like they are trying to collapse that tower one level at a time. That looks like a job I won't be doing.

I'm qualified to run that thing but I wouldn't do it for less than $100 / hour. I don't know where this project is taking place, maybe labour is cheaper there. I don't understand why they don't implode it. There must be something else close by that may be damaged by it. But still, with the price of the labour, the crane, and the hoe, I'm still surprised that imploding it and fixing the damage wouldn't be cheaper.

In most of the videos I've seen of blowing up smokestacks like that, they usually start to fall to one side and then break apart, so the debris doesn't fall very far from the base anyway.

Indy, there are qualifications? My boss looked at me and asked "you think you can run that thing without killing anyone?" Then he got back in his truck and left.

I think it would be hella fun to be up in the air like that!

LOL! I've worked at places like that too.

At my work, we have a training program to learn to run every piece of heavy equipment. Also, if I was supervising this job, and hired someone to run that hoe, before they got up there, I'd get them to load some trucks on the ground to prove to me that they know what they are doing.
