Yeah, Ill admit that its not perfect, but neither is anything else. It still baffles me as to why apple thinks you should only be able to resize a window from the bottom right hand corner. Seriously, If you have the window placed in the bottom right hand corner of your screen, and you want to make it larger, you have to first move it then drag from that specific corner. And it irks me that there is no way to really go full screen w/ a window other than to drag it out as large as possible... of course then the dock gets in the way of everything. I still find the OS pleasant to use though.

Idk, I like to use a little bit of everything.

I am running Xandros Desktop on my Asus Eee PC, and Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron on the upstairs desktop.

I'm gonna stick with linux (SUSE 10.3 on my box and my server. And the family PC is running Fedora 8.)
I just like being able to have things working, and to be able to get things done quickly and efficiently. Now, the only time I use windows is at college, and I find myself so restricted by it.

Resource hog, iffy drivers for some things (and it's been out how long!?!), and, to be honest, its slow as hell in some of my personal benchmarks that I've run--my single core Socket 939 XP running machine runs circles around my Core2 Laptop.

Vista has a lot of bells and whistles, but in the end, all it is is just poppin' the rag.

Can I point out each new release of Windows has needed more resources?
The iffy drivers aren't fully vista's fault, more the manufacturers of the device. If you run a same benchmark on an older and a newer OS, then of course it's about to be different with the older OS coming out on time. However I will say this, neither OS is perfect. There are things I like about XP and things I like about Vista. I've seen the ugly side of both OSes and in same cases, XP is the only way if you want a usable system (I won't like Vista touch my home laptop) but I do like Vista and can't wait until I move my desktop to Vista permanently.

Yep. And Bill Gates said that 640k would be enough for everyone.

True, the iffy drivers aren't Microsoft's fault. But until these 3rd parties get their collective **** together...well lets say a *nix derivative looks more appealing every day. Yes, I realize that there's driver issues with *nix as well, but for what I need a computer to do, nearly any *nix can do.

Poorly written code is at play as well--my laptop has a Core2 and 2 gigs of RAM, and yet (and I'm partially at fault for this as I haven't gotten around to streamlining) I swear this damn thing take longer to boot than my ancient 3.11 486 (may it rest in pieces) ever did. Slower hard drives also factor into this--I'm not quite sure what the RPM is on my laptop's hard drive, but I'm guessing its 5200 RPM, whereas my main system is running 7200 RPM drives-a 2k RPM difference. But then again, I got the laptop for portability, not for performance.
Plus, there's a lot of self-gratification at play as well--if I can get *nix to do what I need it to do and be

I'd recommend running a 3rd party defragger like PerfectDisk 8.
In the case of vista, many things are a factor to overall performance. Streamlining will solve some things. I found a lot of laptops take a couple of minutes to boot up.

btw, Laptop drive speeds are normally 5400rpm. Older ones could be 4200rpm.
If you want more tips for Vista, just ask.

I've recently acquired another halfway decent computer so I may upgrade my current rig to Vista and use it solely for gaming. I'll use the other one with XP or Ubuntu as a media server and everything else computer. That way I can get all the performance I can out of the gaming one.
