    Default Senior Project

I have to do a senior project before i graduate in January. However, this might take some time.

I was going to take many of the school's older computers (mostly Celeron 1 GHz and Pentium III's), raise funds for some "new" old parts for them, then create a computing cluster of about 40-50 of these computers. My old CET teacher said he would donate some space, time, and a few parts towards the cluster.

    Shoving off...

What are you planning on running, the Rocks cluster software that Airbozo put the tutorial up on?

    You've got a +rep and a /subscribe from me.

Edit: If you need any PC100 ram, I've got two sticks I'll donate. Not sure about capacity, I can throw em in my PIII and see if you're interested.

    Cool, thanks ^^.

I'll either be running the Rock's Cluster software or a Debian-based distro that has a cluster utility built-in.

The RAM would come in handy most likely. It either uses PC100 or PC133.

    I got someone with a 50-port switch too .

O.o *is confused about the move*

Oh well... Anyways I have a few of the things drawn up. I'll see if I can get some of them on the webcam because I can't really use sketchup or anything (on Xandros... Yuck.)

Send me a PM with your mailing address--I've got two sticks of PC100 128 meg and a stick of PC100 64 meg that almost got introduced to my dremel, as I have no need for legacy hardware.

I've also got a couple old 32 meg video cards, if you're interested in those as well lemme know.

Thanks =3. I'll try to get that PM to you soon. *is swamped with cleaning*

I'm going to try to get a hold of my CET teacher on tuesday (monday off ^^) and see what he's got, then go downstairs and get a hold of the "computer guy" with all the computers in question (probably a bad stick of RAM here and there, bad harddrive, new power supply, etc.) and see if i can get my hands on them. I know my CET teacher has 5-6 Pentium III's and a few celerons in his closet, along with some spare motherboards and a lot of cases and PSUs. Maybe get a few dual PIII motherboards .

    I just remembered these.

    Link

=] 10 small, energy efficient computers in a cluster. will take up roughly a third the size of a full tower ATX, and run on about 500-600 watts max. They even have PicoITX cases too. ^^

They are cool. I have seen one in a mod over at bit-tech. They make a great little system for downloading.

I saw those and the first thing that popped into my mind was a CarPC.
