    Default Testing Station

This is gonna be a very quick build.

This is an accident waiting to happen.

And this is my shopping list:

I've got plenty of scrap/odd shaped MDF and veneered plywood to make a somewhat decent looking box to cover the framing that I'll be doing with the 1" wood. I'm also hoping to be able to route all the cables underneath the MDF top as well. The four hinges and the doornob will be for the front of the station, as I'm thinking I might build a little storage area there as well.

This is my project for tomorrow. I'm off to get the few items I need right now.

    Update:

MDF can be tapped, so I busted out my tap and die set and went to work. Tapped seven holes to accomodate ATX form factor (used my PIII board as a reference). Then I went to work on marking out some spots for cutting access holes for cables:

I thought this next part was pretty ingenious of me. I used corner braces that are most commonly used for framing(as in house framing, not picture framing) as mounts for both the hard drive and the optical drive. Both of the units (hard drive/optical drive) pictured are dead, so I'm not too overly worried about wrecking them further:

And then I went to work cutting the wood:

And this is where I am currently at:

Hopefully I'll find enough time this weekend to cut the panels out of my birch plywood for the sides and the bottom, and then this will be done.

One thing that cannot be seen in the above picture is the framing around the PSU area--it's rock solid. That puppy ain't going anywhere, except backwards if I'm not careful. I'll be addressing that issue as well this weekend.
