Default Why is Vista Doing This?

On most occasions, my harddrives (which are in a RAID 0 configuration) don't really do much work. They load the crap for Vista, and it's done. I dont have many startup programs, yet it says it is using 960 MB of memory. When I installed Vista originally, it used about 260 at the most on startup. My harddrives are constantly reading information for about 20 different SVCHost.exe executions running at the same time.

Windows 7 is probably going to take the flux capacitor to run... Get out your plutonium, you're gonna need it.

No idea if you've tweaked your system at all yet, but just like XP there are a bunch of ways you can tone down Vista.

The following website gives a basic introduction to trimming Vista, and at the end he shows you a list of services that can stay or go: http://www.daniel-richards.net/vista.html

Here is another website that gives you similar tips, and then a few more: http://www.ixibo.com/index.php/2008/...-vista-tweaks/

I've used most of the steps in both of these to tone down Vista Business (a bit lighter to begin with) for my average laptop, and it helped a lot.

As far as Windows 7, they say that boot times are shorter, and power consumption on laptops is significantly decreased. Who knows, there may be hope yet!

    goto windows c:\windows\prefetch

    delete all files in there..

what it does is windows looks at what you use and opens the program befor you use it to speed opening programs up but it doesnt work well with game just busness apps so I disapled it in the regersty as well
