That's interesting. I'm trying it and I couldn't open this site with IE but it works fine with firefox (3.0.5).
Well, I could open the forum but if I tried to view a thread, I got a blank page.

What I don't have is sound.

And where does one get a product key from?

The product keys for the beta are gotten through the same MS page where you download the bits.

I may not be one of the developers, but seeing the beta going so well makes me proud. I'm just the hardware guy, buy I know everyone on the team has put a lot of love into the new version.

And yes, your analysis of the kernel was pretty darned spot-on. As for the network discovery and the print server, well, if I recall, that process has changed slightly and is still being tweaked internally.

OK, to get a beta key, go HERE.

According to the FAQ, when you download the beta (after signing in with a live account) you will be given a key that works on up to 3 machines.

Wrong, you've be given a key that everyone is getting from that site. Don't believe me? I'm PM you the start of all the keys (not the full keys).

    EDIT:

    What's bad?
When you have all windows 7 BETA keys.
    What's worse?
    You have them all memorised.
    What's even worse?
You know the date and time when you got each one.

    whats worse than that,

when you have the following keys memorisied, along with the build numbers to match:

    Windows 98SE,
    Windows 2000 Pro
    Windows 2000 Server
    Windows XP Pro
    Windows Vista Prem
    Windows Vista Ulti
    Windows Server 2003 Standard

    Office 97
    Office 2003
    Visual Studio 6 Enterprise Edition

never had to look at a product key sticker in quite a few years.

    edit:

what can i say, i like reinstalling my pc, and i also like playing with different OS's, one month i may fancy playing with win98, next month i may fancy playing with vista.

the only pc that remains is my laptop, has ubuntu on it, even though acer said it couldn't be done, all i did was e-mail them asking for the exact hardware inside as the gfx card wasn't detected and windows showed me the generic nvidia chipset drivers and would'nt tell me what it was.

Ooh, got a url for that? I have a realtek sound chip (I think) and no sounds with Win7.

    Why is it 7 anyway?
    There was 3, (incl. 3.1, 3.11,) then 95(4), 98(5), ME(6), XP(7), Vista(8) so we should be on 9 by now.

no, they're going by the NT kernal versions (NT 3.1, NT 4, 2000 (NT 5), xp (NT 5.1 or something like that), vista (NT 6), windows 7 (NT 7)
I hope that answers your questions.
