No, you can install Windows 7 beta off a thumb drive.
Personally, I just did an install over the LAN.
Wow, wish i knew how to do that... i only had 2 DVDs and had trouble burning the disk... would have been awesome to just install over the network. I ended up spending and hour or so making a boot flash drive and then trying to figure out how to make my computer boot from it. Oh and it ran really slow, apparently installing from a flash drive is super slow. (unless its just my computer... its pretty low end)
Anyway, I really like windows seven but haven't played w/ it to much yet. I'm not a power user though so i doubt i could really get in to the nitty gritty of it and give it a thorough testing.
What if I'm a Snowstorm burning
What if I'm a world unturning.
You mean an activation key? I'm not sure what your referring to?
I managed to get it installed okay w/ the key i got when i downloaded the beta, it was just really slow installing from my flash drive. I Was just saying i wish i knew how to do it over the LAN like crenn.

Dealing with killing viruses on a daily basis (job) makes me hate XP more and more everyday. In windows 7, hovering the mouse over the bottom right corner makes all windows go transparent. Just awesome!
