This is a very cool program that is useful for stressing video processors. It's a "real-time dynamic range image based lighting demo". Called Rthdribl, it's free to download at this link:

Running this while running GPU-Z is excellent for testing new cooling solutions, as well as performance on video equipment. With these two together you can see FPS during any number of different lighting and shading scenarios, while also watching GPU load and temperatures.

Plus, it's just downright mesmerizing to watch.
“Do not trust people like me. I will take you to museums, and parks, and monuments, and kiss you in every beautiful place, so that you can never go back to them without tasting me like blood in your mouth. I will destroy you in the most beautiful way possible, and when I leave you will finally understand why storms are named after people.”

I once found a graphic demo program (that could bring ANY system to its knees) called "Debris". It was a brilliant bit of programming... even more so when you consider that it was something like 170kb! Yes, that's it.

This was about a year ago now, but Google will probably let you get a look at it.

This is the maker of this software, he is pretty good at making visuals and synths...

Click Ctrl+F and type in debris to find it.
It's like JFK announcing the moon mission. He had no expertise in space travel, and no way of knowing if it would work. He just announced "we're going to the moon" and then they made it happen because everyone was on the same page and working towards the same goal. If he had said "well, let's get some people in space, and we'll see how far out we can get, and if I find someone to make a rocket strong enough, we could possibly approach the moon's orbit and maybe land" it wouldn't have happened.

Haha, I'm betting if I tried either of those on my now almost-dead laptop (some ass**** just about busted the screen off and it's barely hanging on... thankfully I have an accidental damage warranty on it) it would fry it.

When I get the desktop working I'll transfer these over to it and give 'em a run.

ok I downloaded it and tried it twice....

first time at 1280x1024, full screen. screen went blank, said "out of range"

so I rebooted, tried again, this time not in fullscreen mode.

went for about 3 seconds, then the screen went blank (green light turned orange, indicating no signal) and the fan on the card was going at 100%. HOLY CRAP it sounded like a tornado going through my house lol

    so what gives?

should I try a lower resolution?
