Let’s try a critical thinking question. What do you do when your roommates, parents, wife, or fellow residents at the retirement home won’t tolerate the sound of your dremel at the dining table? Did you say “take up knitting”? Wrong again, the correct answer is acquire an outdoor cube van box and convert it into stalwart, full-scale man-shack! Well, that’s what Liquid_Scope_99 did. Now here’s a man who’s not afraid to roll up his sleeves and go "mano-a-mano" with a challenging project. His skeleton of a man-shack was delivered with considerable damage en route so the first task was to assess and resuscitate. He re-enforced the damaged supports with wood and patched the holes in the exterior skin with black tar sealant, then started framing the front door with some recycled lumber from his neighbor’s porch. His burly man-chapel was also adopted by the local feline congregation as a cozy shelter (either that or a handy place to hold the kitty AA meetings). Next he lined the interior surfaces with 1 inch thick insulation sheeting and got to work building the dual front doors with the help of his father in law. Just to be sure the “man cave” was sufficiently masculine, he used some foil duct tape to seal the vertical strips of insulation covering the wall’s slats (can you say mandaid?) The façade has been doored, framed, insulated, covered with “rustic” rough barnwood siding, and painted; it’s looking very sophisticated for what used to be a metal box. He has also insulated the ceiling and covered it with diamond plate-patterned paneling, it looks fantastic. Now he’s working on the interior walls using donated pegboard as the surface of choice which will make adjustable shelving a real benefit. When the workshop otherwise known as “Man Cave 2.0” is completed, we hope that Liquid_Scope_99 will sacrifice a beige computer case to the Modding Gods to properly christen it’s maiden voyage into the uncertain waters of modding. Don’t deny yourself a gander at this awesome and inspiring outdoor project and post your comments in his worklog here.
