    Default DVD drives not working properly

    ok, I used them last night (to burn ISOs and then to play a game) and today they're not working. They open, close, status light blinks, etc. They dont show up in my computer, and under device manager it says "Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)" for both drives. I tried reinstalling the drivers, disabling then enabling them, tried the troubleshooter, even shut down the computer, unplugged the power and IDE cables and rebooted, then shut down and plugged everyhting back in...still no go. Anyone have any ideas?

    figured it out

    Start Registry Editor.

    Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
    Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.

    Go into device manager, disable then re-enable the CD/DVD drives, works perfectly now
