    Default Laptop/PSU (mis)match?

My friend has a laptop with no power cord and I have a power cord with no laptop. The hp power supply happens to fit the compaq laptop(i wonder why).

I'm not 100% on the values as I don't have it with me at the moment, but the laptop requires about 18.8v@3.5amps and the PSU cord is about 19v@4.3amps. Basically, they're different values and the laptops are both lower.

Will this fry if i plugged it in, or will the laptop only draw the power it needs?

iirc, the voltage matters more than the current does. Also, the PSU being rating higher than the laptop would be a cause for concern. That being said, if the values are as you posted, it might be fine; a 0.2V and 0.8A overage shouldn't kill it (read: if it does, not my fault ).

more amps won't hurt. The DC-DC PSU in the laptop, itself just won't use the extra amperage. With the voltage being off by only .2V, I wouldn't worry about it.
