Any Ideas on the Limits of a CPU

I am running a AMD 3200XP on a ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe with watercooling.

I cant afford a new pc at the moment so I want to get as much performance as I can out of my current rig.

I have tried messing with the BIOS but it doesnt seem to make much difference or if it does my PC hangs after about 30mins.

Do you have any idea how fast I can run it and keep it stable?

Its stock speed is 2200, measured with Tom's Hardware Guide clock speed.

Any help / FSB / AGP / Voltage numbers etc would be great.

Use speedfan to check your temps, voltages, and fan speeds.

I had a problem with a XP a while ago, it kept on overheating causing stability problems. I would recommend changing your TIM.

One last thing, check your motherboard for leaking or bulging capacitors.

I use Asus Probe that came with my mobo.

Is there any software that will overclock for me?

I have used Nvidia's NTune software, is that the best one to use on my motherboard?

BTW bit of a noob question what is TIM?

There is software that will overclock for you.... it just depends on how hot you like your CPU, I recommend overclocking in the BIOS.

As for Nvidia's NTune software, I'm not familiar with it, it might be only for your graphics card, I'm not sure. You'll need someone else to answer this question.

That question is not a noob question. I know several people who know more about computers than me and don't know what TIM is. TIM stands for Thermal Interface Material. Most people will have a thermal pad in between their CPU and HSF. Overclockers like me, use someone which is more effiecent, I use Arctic Silver 5 (AS5) for example, but there are several other products on the market. One last thing, all of the above information will not get you laid!

no sh.t. last time my ex gf was over she got mad cause i was getting my junk to post and running tests. shes gone now. amazing how much free time and money i have now. fx60 maybe? lol.

I use Artic Silver and have done since it came out, i swear by it!

ANyone else got any clues as to how fast I can get my rig to go or any timings etc. I have checked my mobo and everything seems fine no leaky capacitors or anything untoward.

Depends on the processor, all of them work differently.

AMD only makes one or two type of processor in a "family" and the ones that don't meet the standard of the high end (FX60 for example) go to the closest one they run stable with, say X2 4400.

Your ability to over clock them is limited to the quality of their manufacturing. Some are just better than others. If you’re lucky you get the X2 4400 that tested to be a FX-60 but the demand for 4400's was higher so they just under clock it in the ID info.

Can anyone recommend a good, complete walkthrough for overclocking dual core AMD's? Not even sure I want to, but I'd like to know how if I ever wanted to. Thanks!

I have been offered a MSI K8N MASTER 2 FAR DUAL SOCKET 940 AMD OPTERON SLI and was wondering if it will overclock well? I plan to put 2 opteron 144's in cos that would make a killer system. any ideas?

Opteron 144's are 939, you'll have to get a 244 or an 800-series for that Mobo.
