Default 1/3rd GeN - HTPC - EC tribute

    Hey guys!

Guess its time to get a new project started...

I know that in some point of my life, ill get a full blown Electrocompaniet HiFi setup, and what would be better then having a 20db watercooled media PC to go along with it?

This is some pics of the electrocompaniet's amplifier and pre-amp

It should really be possible to get a HTPC case to look quite similar to this one =)

    Some temporary hardware :

    Mobo : ASUS M4A78-EM, Socket-AM2+/AM3, DDR2
Gfx : MSI Radeon HD 4770
    Memory : 8gb OCZ Reaper pc8500 DDR2
    Harddrives : 2x WD 1.5TB 7200rpm Sata
    CPU : Phenom II 955
    PSU : Uncertain
    IR remote

Watercooling : Laing DDC pump, mist 360 radiator, OCZ Hydroflow CPU block, Some GPU block, 3/8" hosing, 3x 120mm Fractal design fan's

Ill get some design pics out later today most likely =) stay tuned!

    lolīd at the name xD

though, i would change alot of the things in the hardware setup. IMO a htpc should give out as little heat as posible.
    mobo is fine
gfx is a fine choice. dosnt run very hot
memory - what can you posibly do with 8 gb in a htpc? go for 4
harddrives - get the new 2 tb drives instead
for the cpu, i would go for the AMD Athlon II X2 250. it has a tdp of 65 watt! thats half of the 955. thats to be felt. and its still a 3 ghz dual core, and will have NO problems running full hd etc.

and for that setup you can run the ddc pump at 7V, and having the fans running at 400/800 rpm. that would get you below 20db i think
for the cpu-block you would have to get something that isnt very restrictive, but cools well.
i would recommend the heatkiller 3.0. best there is.

just my 5 cent looking foreward to this
is that a 120.9 raddy on your case, or are you just happy to see me?

Have to agree with you on the CPU and memory Sir. p0Pe, when it comes to the CPU block has OCZ agreed to provide a hydroflow block =) should be more then sufficient considering the 65w CPU

However... a 360 radiator should be sufficient for cooling a x2 250 and a 4770? And anyone know if the 4770 memory need active cooling? have to find a block to put on it aswell 0.o

Only wanna have the 3 fractal fan's and the PSU fan running noise wise

my point is that 8 gb is just gonna put out more heat and you will NEVER need it.

a 360 is MORE than enough. a fullcover block for the 4770 would be nice, but afaik none is made, and you cant put a mcw60 on it since the holes are to small.
what i would do is this:
    http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?p=6130239
    and with ram heatsinks

for harddrives just get a single western digital black drive then. it gets hot, but runs fast.

I've said it before, I'll say it again,

If it's not overdone, it's not done! <or>
There is no such thing as overkill, that just means it's done right.
