So, WHY would you want to give your dreams away?

if you want "off the line" power why are you using a turbo?

Should you want the instant response of a supercharger?

Haha, that is funny! I do love Top Gear, one of my favorite shows. Not that retarded US version though...

Granted, I don't share Clarkson's opinion of it not being possible to make a average car hold it's own against a super car. But, there are enough people out there that would make a car like THAT, and run their mouth, so I can understand how he would form that opinion.

After seeing Jeremy try and work on cars like the Caterham, I wouldn't trust his opinion for much.

Practicality, cost, and a few other small things. Like turning a supercharger puts a good amount of strain on your crank.

Spooling isn't really a issue. That is what slipping the clutch, and loading it up is for. Maybe a line-lock... When I was driving the Dodge RAM with a 5.9 12V, I would left-foot-brake it to spool up to about 5psi, and it would launch hard, and before I knew I was riding on the wastegate.

Don't get me wrong though, I'm not one of those people who think you can't put a supercharger on a diesel. I've seen what they can do, and it is mean. I was looking at a guys truck the other day with a Whipple 2.3 on a Cummins running about 4psi AT IDLE, which fed into a Turbocharger using a bypass that kicked in around 15psi. A crazy setup I would love to try some day.
