    Default Plexiglass

Im looking to build my first case useing plexiglass and im worried about weather or not its going to be strong enough to hold what i want it to.

Im looking at having a sheet of plexiglass holding the motherboard a cd drive hard drive and floppy drive upright, id be useing the sides of the case to support some of the weight while its in use. but i want to it be removeable from the rest of the case.

would be very greatfull for any oppinions/advice, thanks.

Acrylic would be stronger than plexi, less felxable.

I used 1/8" think walls for the HD cage part of my flame project. I used 1/4" for the top/bottom just because I needed something thick enough to hold the screws.

I think more of the acrylic cases you buy are 3/8"

1/8" acrylic should be ok, but I might go 1/4", just for overkill's sake and it's also much better for when you're going to actually hang something from the acrylic.

If it's just a side window, or something like that, that won't really be supporting any weight, then I'd go with 1/8"

You could also try getting thin sheets of plexi and fixing them together with a clear adhesive. Just like plywood, multiple layers will be able to withstand more force than a thicker, single sheet.

I use all 1/4" acrylic, that would be your best choice. 1/4" - 1/2" is good, but 1/4" should give you PLENTY of rigidity and strength, and is much cheaper and easy to work with than anything higher. Professional acrylic cases usually use 1/2", but they are cast molded and are more prone to cracking that using a sheet. Acrylic is a hard material to work with if this is your first time, you will want to practice quite a bit before you try anything. Best of luck!
