6 maybe 7 would be great, any way to do this ?

Are you just adding fans to a PS1? If so, those connectors are not going to be found anywhere inside it. If there is a 12v line in the PS1, you could cut the connector off the fan and splice it in though. You'll need a wiring diagram for the PS1...I looked for a bit and couldn't find one. Good luck with that.
    I'll procrastinate tomorrow.

    Multimeter FTW

You could use a multimeter and probe some wires for their voltages. You will want 12vDC

Why 40mm fans? If size is an issue, then yes.. if you 6-7 of them for decent airflow, it's gonna be LOUD.

    That would drive me crazy!

for the same footprint as all those little ones you could just get a slim (12mm) 120mm fan that will move more air with less noise.

/\These. Thin 40mm fans don't really move much air to speak of, but they sure do make a fuss about it. ...also, yeah, was heat even an issue with the PS1?

Whatever PC mobo you use will likely have fan headers for you. If you can, I'd use larger fans for the reasons whined about above.
Is this going to be a miniITX build? Or are you thoroughly modding the PS1 case?
    I'll procrastinate tomorrow.
