    Default ...wait, what??

For a project I'm going to be starting soon, I picked up a few items at Harbor Freight today. One of them confuses me...not so much the product, as the warning notes.

...So they have something clearly labeled as "welding goggles"...that the manufacturer says is not supposed to be used on any of the three most common welding types... And no, there's nothing on the back of the cardboard top that would suggest this either.

Yup they are designed for gas welding as it does not use a plasma arc but fire to fuse the metals. You should never use goggles for arc, wire, or tungston welding anyway because the UV will not only damage your eyes, but it will burn your skin, not to mention all the flying slag.

Ah, I had been thinking for some reason that TIG and MIG were gas...actually looking them up, I see that they're not.

That makes sense, actually. A gas flame puts out quite a different spectrum and amount of energy than arcs... Oh well, it was only $5 for the two pairs...not sure if I'll return them or just throw them in the "stuff that might be useful at some point" pile.

They are actually useful for grinding precise pieces.

IDK, I've always just used normal safety goggles..never had a problem. ..in retrospect, maybe it's not the brightest idea..perhaps I'll use these next time.

I love that pile, what bad is when that pile becomes half your work area
