I work for a Chinese company and talk about this often. What's weird is that if he looks hard enough he will start to find these tiny Chinese companies with some pretty cool products. They may be the king of kirfs, they are also the king of underground electronics. One time they sent me pictures of this wicked cool handheld computer thing before the OQO became famous.
Also, barter, barter, barter. They will respect you just because you are Western, however they will try and take advantage of your wealth.
It's like JFK announcing the moon mission. He had no expertise in space travel, and no way of knowing if it would work. He just announced "we're going to the moon" and then they made it happen because everyone was on the same page and working towards the same goal. If he had said "well, let's get some people in space, and we'll see how far out we can get, and if I find someone to make a rocket strong enough, we could possibly approach the moon's orbit and maybe land" it wouldn't have happened.

My brother was stationed in Japan for a bit and he bought tons of DVD's, some that weren't even out yet.
I'm not sure if you want a bunch of movies but that's the only thing I could think of. Just my two cents.
